We have been given a referal for my 17 month old to have one as she is still on losec 3 capsules a day and necoate advance and the paed is concerned there is something else going on. Has anyone else had a kid under 2 that has had to have one. How did it go. I heard they had to fast first and sit still while they have it done. How does that work with a toddler?

Yep my friend had one done. I'll ask her about it. She's not on OB.

She says:
They lay them down flat, wrapped in a sheet I think, they have to fast then they put the liquid in one bottle and water in another.. Then they turn them each side while they take swallows..

BS showed no reflux, but Alex's Endoscopy did.. Sometimes they don't pick it up..

Thanks heaps for that. Yea the paed said that, he was hoping though that it would show something else going on without having to do that awfull one where they stick the camera down their throat. He seems to think there is something else going on. Did she say how long they have to fast for? I think thats going to be the worst part lol

All the best Bmama. My 17 month old daughter is on 2 losec capsules per day plus ranitidine and she is on kids soy milk as she wouldn't drink the neocate.

Our Specialist said she may need surgery to find out what is causing hers to, but for now we are concentrating on her tonsils as the reflux has caused secondary tonsillitis which is now chronic.

You poor thing as if the reflux alone isnt bad enough, tonsillitis too! Your poor lil girl and poor you! Yea we tried soy first and she was allergic to that too, she seems to be outgrowing the allergies a bit now though and can eat food with dairy and soy in it but not straight milk or yoghurt dairy or soy. The reflux hasnt gotten any better tho. How do they treat her tonsils, antibiotics? or will she have to have them out?

Yeh we can give dairy in food as well, just not milk, cheese, yogurts etc.
She was on antibiotics, but they won't work anymore. We just give pamol. Sometimes when she is really bad we will get the antibiotics, but for now there is no point. Yip she will have them out. They would do it now if it wasn't for the reflux. We want to put it off as long as possible though because of her age and size with the risks.

All the best with the test. I didn't know the different ways they could do it. Our specialist just told us DD would be put under general, so I guess she will skip the stage you will be doing.

Your little girl must be worse and I guess because of the situation with her tonsils as well? We have been told the barrium swallow isnt the best way to see but a good less invasive first thing to try. Failing that is it called an endoscopy where they go under general and they stick a camera down their throat? Cant remember... but anyway her reflux is controlled by the losec and we are told long term use causes no harm so why put her through a procedure like that unless necessary.

So true Bmama. Hopefully when the time comes we can discuss the barium swallow instead. Glad I saw your thread.
DD seems to cope quite well. We have our moments, but the losec is keeping it under control for the most part and most of the time you wouldn't know she is sick.
She is packing on the weight now that she is on losec to. So nice to have a child that wants to eat
