Topic: Clomid & naturopath? Posted: 16 July 2011 at 7:30pm |
Just wondering if anyone has seen a naturopath while on clomid? I'm about to start my 3rd round of clomid & am keen to see a naturopath. I'm a bit worried about mixing natural remedies with traditional medicine. Has anyone done this? Am wondering if I just let the naturopath know that I'm on clomid then they at least are aware of it?
Thanks!!

FA told me that they asked you not to take natural remedies (chinese herbs in particular) while on clomid. It wasn't that they were rubbishing the natural stuff, quite the opposite - they said it can have a genuine effect, but that that could cause problems when you're taking, in effect, two doses of something to help you ovulate.
I don't think it would hurt to go, but I would say it's essential to tell both the naturopath and your Dr what you're taking. Then both of them are aware of the full story and can take it into account when assessing you.

I found neither wanted you to do the other, altho the naturopath was more receptive to the mainstream meds than the other way around.

I haven't seen a naturopath while taking clomid, but am seeing an acupuncturist and have been taking TCM herbs prior to starting my clomid cycles. I'm on my 2nd clomid cycle now, and haven't taken the TCM herbs while taking clomid. Because some of them can contradict the clomid, or try to work in the same manner. The general advice is to do one or the other, not both together. If you have a very experienced naturopath/acupuncturist/herbalist, who knows exactly how clomid works, and how their herbs work, and can make sure that the one's they give are not going to impact on the functioning of clomid, then you could give it a try, but you'd need to tell whoever is giving you clomid too.

Hey lou, I agree with the others about the herbs but acupuncture might be worth a go. Acupuncturists who specialise in fertility recommend acupuncture when doing IVF so it may be similar when on clomiphene. I have thought about it off and on.

Yeah I think I may hold off on the naturopath. Might have a look further into acupuncture and see what they say. Thanks girls!
