elective C/S dates

I'm sure you must get some say in the matter, especially if you are really that concerned or traumatised by yr first birth experience. I'm going for a elective this time after a emergency CS the first time. My MW has said they will prob give me a few dates to choose from around a week or so before the EDD, especially as EDD is just before Christmas. We are 2+hrs away from the hospital which also makes it imperative to get a date thats hopefully before I go into labour, but of course, you can't plan everything exact. lol

I was worried like you too. I didnt want to get to hospital in labour and be told OH YOU CAN PUSH NOW. Ob assured me I could get him out of bed 100 times for false labour before he would get annoyed at me >LOL>

I never got told a date with DD2 as OB thought we would see closer to the time (perhaps he just put a date in his notes?) I had first at 37weeks traumatic vb too.

anyways to cut a long story short woke up monday morning, quick keep your husband happy, then bam braxton hix and sore back. had a shower 9am noticed I had a show, rung MW. went to hospital around 10am, they put me on the monitor for 3/4hr which showed the contractions 5min apart then OB did a VE to find I was 4cm so rung theatre, signed forms etc. In theatre at 11.40, baby out at 12.05. It didnt seemed rushed at all cos I was 36wk this time they were concerned about her lungs but she was perfect and didnt need any drugs agpar 10/10 it was the most amazing experience of my life. loved it.

This time OB has given me a date at 39wks according to scan, dates which are behind my period dates. which we are choosing to IGNORE and certainly not telling anyone, I dont for a minute believe I wll make it too the date. I just know it was so much quicker/less painfull to get to 4cm the 2nd time that this time I will be up hospital much quicker and am going to discuss with OB and MW at next visit to just to the VE straight up before the monitor to avoid baby being to far down.

Definately am having c/s for this baby sometime in late sept/.early oct. My advice is dont wait and see, if you think you are in labour, contact MW immediately or just go straight up to the hospital ward mw to check you out. I did this a few times before she arrived and it was reasurring to be seen and checked out. Once I sore my main MW, once the ward MW checked me out and head mw, then the got in the OB, then once straight to teh OB.

What gest was your daughter born?

My first was crash c-section a week overdue, and my 2nd was an elective, because there were no health issues apart from needing c-section, they werent willing to do prior to 39 weeks, but by the time it was booked, then hospital bumped me down I ended up having her at 39+6... ironic considering she tried to make an early exit at 29 weeks!

my last on the other hand was at 38+1 because I had Gest Diabetes, those babies they try and get out a little earlier as GD babies are often too big if left to term, putting more strain on their pancreas etc.

elective c/s are done under a spinal block rather than an epidural and the Mw/OB all say its easier/better recovery than epidural. similar process just wears of much quick and usually they pop a 24hr dose of morphine in with the spinal. I only lost leg sensation for around an hour and half.

at my next weeks visit with MW (I alternative between MW and OB) Im just guna check with her as too whom to I phone when I think im in labour. cos I have a different MW to last pregnancy and dont wana be mucked around.

Last time I rung her as it was first thing monday morning, she was laughing saying oh cool thats "convenient" theatre 2 is empty and Dr W and I are both in the maternity ward we will see you soon.

I was booked in for 39 weeks...i knew they had dates wrong and had my heart set on elective after traumatic stuff with my first birth... but i went into labour..got there and they madem e wait while they changed shifts so in the end i was almost ready to push and then got spinal and cs was fine.. so yeah it can happen that way..

Hi KN, I got told 32 wks.

I saw my OB at 11wks (as thought I was 13wk) for scan he said any questions I said you still happy for me to have a c/s YES for sure, best for you and bubs.....and he told me then around 38/39wks would be d.day....well c/s. but confirm closer to time. It depends on what hospital board you are with I think. Timaru are pretty cruisy and not many are told booked c/s dates until after the 36wk scan

Im 33wks and saw him last week and he still hasnt given me a date. last pregnancy he didnt give me a date at all as had 36wk scan and said I will scan you in a fortnight to confirm date and then 3days later I was 5cm so up to theatre we go.

Thats reassuring MissA as I still worry sometimes about an elective, its so different to be totally aware of everything as opposed to being tired from labour and chilled out from the epi after all the pain, lol

geee that jornalist peter korn, has really spun things around a bit. I would never believe what a journalist says over my specials OB/GYN/GP who has been working with me for the last 15years!!!!!

How does "WHO" have a clue that 15% is a good guideline to keep c/s level at. Ob/Gyn/MW are the ones that agree to the c/s and they are the best people to decide if we as mothers need them to save our lives and babys lives, so even if they have a limit of 15% set and then a mum comes in with a baby who is prolapsed cord or stuck in birth canal or whatever reason, its not like they are guna say ohhh sorry you cant have a c/s it will push us over our limit.......crazy statement WHO, each mum giving birth needs to be treated as a human being not as a percentage or cost to hospital~!!!!!!!

Its a crock of crap if you ask me that we ask for a specific date to suit out of town visitors, may be the case for the likes of angeliana jolie or posh spice but not Mrs Average New Zealand!!!! lmfpao!
