I am keen to move away from Disposables now. Mainly environmentmal thoughts and the obvious savings and I am at home so should not be so lazy......

So...I would like something that is easily washed (pref in cold or do they have to be in HOT plus we cant use fabric softener), soft and very absorbent. Not sure about these insert things but definitely dont want to be putting a "cover" over another nappy.... Want ones that will last from now til toilet training.....And are not really really dear???

Can anyone tell me which one they would recommend????There are so many I am bamboozled by it all!

LOL!!!

I love FB, for an 9 month old you are looking probably at mediums but will likely need petite toddler or large before toilet training. They will still pay off though, I started Briona on mediums when she was 13mos.

We don't have a hot tap to our washing machine so even though hot washes are preferable, they still do fine in cold wash. They don't need fabric softener, I just wash them in Persil. Fuzzis are pocket style so you put in what insert bulk you need from time to time and wash and dry separately to make that process a bit quicker.

I think OhBaby is arranging a survey review of various types but I'm not sure when the results of that will be available?

both fitteds and prefolds require a cover if wearing under clothes...so sounds like you will be wanting all in ones or pockets. all in ones can be expensive and not as absorbent as some tho... and if you want them to last from birth to potty you will need a one size.

it is recommended not to use fabric softener with most MCN so no need to worry about that.

some one size pockets are haute nappies, cheek boutique, mommys touch and bum genius (all available at bumbles).

How much does Blake weigh now and how chubby are his thighs? Do you catch up with any of the OB mums who use cloth naps? Its always good to see some before you buy them if you can.

Ethan is a bedwetter so we are trying the MCN for a four y/o. I have bought two Peapods off the Bumble site. They were only $19.95 each which I thought was quite reasonable. They are the pocket ones. He wore one for the first time last night with only the one booster. Worked really well!!! No wet bed!!! He has Red ones cos they go faster!!!! (Lighting McQueen bed cover, and PJ's... he is bit of a fan..)

Some price wise, peapods are great, but not birth to potty tho...

Any of the NZ Wahms do relatively cheap naps, like Tweedles. I don't know how the sizing goes on these, but Han fitted large fuzzis from about 11 months and is still fitting them now. I know a friend has been using large fuzzis on her now 13 month old and they started around 6 months. She had quite chubby thighs tho.

Fuzzi Bunz are great! I have found though that Andy's poop is so potent that I've had to start doing hot washes. Any stains that don't come out in the wash fade very fast in the sun. Not that we've had any lately. Am waiting for my order of Fuzzi Bunz to arrive. Can't wait to use them (have just been trialing one). We made the move after watching Wasted and being told that each baby produces 1/2 ton nappies and that by the time our baby is 70 the nappies still won't have started breaking down! Also moneywise means that every child after Andy gets free nappies. Awesome! If only they would arrive!!

Another question......Am looking at the website now....but how often would you need to change these types of all in one nappies?

Remember with all in ones (AIO), they take longer to dry because of the PUL and they are "fatter". I suggest get a couple of pocket ones to start off with, and maybe one AIO to see what you like and what works for you and bubs. That way you wont be spending heaps on a system that isn't working for you. Try Trademe for second hand ones if you like. There is an OHBaby member selling some Fuzzi Bunz. The thread is here.. (Has the link to her auctions.)

Yup, thats Toni, and she's also an agent so she'll be able to answer any Fuzzi-related questions.

In my experience (and I have a rather vast nappy supply the cheaper ones made by some of the NZ WAHM's are equally as good as some of the dearer ones. I especially like the Tweedles, and I know a lot of people also like the Joely pockets altho I haven't tried them.

The OHbaby! cloth nappy review results will be published late May early June.
