After borrowing a 20year old elna sewing machine from a friend for years, I've moved and now need to buy one of my own.

Everyone I know has an elna given to them by their mother/aunt/nana........

So can anyone recommend one they've bought new recently?

Its needs to hem jeans and other thick fabrics, basic sewing, be not too noisy. I don't need fancy stitches (altho they all seem to have them) and I like to sew quite fast, so prefer if it isn't slow.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I have got a Janome 6500 professional it is computerised but it has been an awesome machine I have had it for about 6 or 7 years without any problems. It does quilting but only bought it as I liked it  the machine overall. The machine does have a speed on it where you can slow  it down or speed it up. Has a extension table where you can sew big items

I have a Brother BM3600. Still fairly new to dressmaking but I love it so far. It has 35 stiches, buttonhole thingy (not used it) and is fast.

Bought it in April and have finally taught myself to make something that fits and looks good.

Bought it from Spotlight - they have a big range of machines and there's usually won on special each week.

I have the Brother bm2600. It's excellent a bunch of stitches the auto buttonhole function and is sooo easy to use.

There's a seller on TM wo sells genuine Brother machines for significantly less than retail.

Eta I got it on Wednesday.
