Topic: Long posts? Posted: 28 October 2005 at 10:43am |
I find if I take too long writing a post which happens often with my 2year old helping then when I go to push post it comes up and tells me I need to log on so then I loose everything I've written. Is there anyway of stopping this from happening?

I find it so frustrating when it happens. I see that others have written big long posts and I wonder how they manger to type that fast or wonder if there is a trick to it.

HINT: copy your long post into Word before pressing the "Post Reply" button. Then, if you do get logged out, all that work is not lost. You just have to log back in, then copy and paste your post back into whatever thread it was for!

I'm not quite sure how long before your login is timed out but I often have that when I have the child to attend to.
You'd think on a mother's site they'd scrap time outs?!?! haha

If I remember I copy my text before I click post reply. Then if it times out I can just paste it back in. It doesn't happen very often for me now, but used to happen all the time

Thanks I'll have to try that next time.
Your right nikki they shouldn't have timeouts on a mums site. It's not like it's a banking site or anything.

Hi there,
Time outs are a security thing, it means that if you accidentally leave the forum window open and don't log off, no one else can come on the computer and access your member details etc. The OhBaby! timeout is quite generous tho, I think about 20 mins, but I'm not 100% sure so will check with Angela.
As some of the others have said, it's a good idea to copy the text. You don't even need to open Word. Just highlight the text, hold down the Ctrl-C keys and then it's copied. That way if it times out, all you need to do is log back in and click Ctrl-V and your text will be pasted in. If you want to copy and paste more than one item tho you will need to open Word and open the Office Clipboard tool.
Hope this helps! If you have any other problems, email us at webmaster@ohbaby.co.nz and we will look into it for you.

I havent had much time at all to get on here! And when I do manage there is so much to catch up on it takes ages! There is so much other stuff to do when Hannah is asleep - need to get my priorities right and get on here more!
