Topic: naptime routines Posted: 28 November 2005 at 9:09am |
What does everyone do for a nap-time routine? jake has regular (ish) naptimes, but i seem to just dump him in the cot adn he cries for about ten minutes then sleeps. Bedtime routine is firmly established - dinner, bath (must be in this order as is now feeding himself....and the floor), get in pjs, a little play, bottle, book and bed. this is okay but a few probs because of other issues. However, i need a strong nap-time routine. Any ideas?

I used to put Kiya into bed with a couple of books, let her "read" in bed for 5 minutes then tuck her down for a sleep. This helped her unwind and relax enough to sleep - neither of my children like going to sleep, cause they might miss out on something the world is doing!

your nap time routine sounds like mine... kisses and cuddles and that was it.

For Han's naptime routine I give her a drink, remove an item of clothing, like pants, snuggle her up in a blanket and read her a story in a dark(ish) room, put her down and say "Night night Hannah, time for sleep" (Like a good dorky mother). Same goes at creche.
The story is good because she associates it with sleep time.

Quinn has always been fairly good at getting to sleep by himself (staying asleep on the other hand, always an issue!) but our routine usually goes: play, something to eat, read a quick story and then pop him in his cot! I am always quite aware of putting him to sleep around the same time, usually between half nine and ten.

paris has always just been put to bed - had a drink or bottle beforehand then nappy change and bed - she still has her music box on every nap and bedtime - helps her drift off quick as

Sophie basically has the same routine for her day sleep as her night sleep - Toilet, into bed, Bible story, and then prayer. If Kerry is home he has a kiss and cuddle first (or me if he is putting her to bed). It made a big dfference when we introduced a routine.
