we decided today that in March we are going to come up to Hamilton for a couple of days and go to the zoo and auckland zoo as well, we would love to meet all you guys, and also need to know some cheap places to stay that are kid friendly.

Would also like to know some kid friendly stuff to do, Rhiannon will almost be 2yrs old when we come up.

Thanks :)

Hi Kaz

Yay for Hamilton holidays. What kind of places do you like staying at? I know of 2 good kid friendly motor lodge type things. Kings Court- Prices range from $99-$160 the have a pool but no play ground that i know of. And Barclay Motel, which is priced from $120-$350, this one has a playground & pool, really nice place too. Both are centrally located.
As for things to do, why not stop by Waitomo Caves on your way through & take Rhiannon caving? Spellbound LTD is the best value for money in Hamilton itself there is the Waipa delta, which does lunch & dinner cruises on a paddle boat up the Waikato river. There is Waterworld, river walks, museum (which has an excite) Lollipops playland & Candyland in Gordonton.
Thats all i can think of at the moment HTH

Hiya Kazzle,

YAY for the Auckland Zoo

Best thing I can suggest to find Kid Friendly Accomodation is the Jasons website http://www.jasons.com/New-Zealand/
that way you can search kid friendly accomodation and check out the places via their websites or pictures before deciding either way

Sorry not to sure on accomodation, but maybe try the Hamilton website: link.

Pity that you'll miss the Summer festival at the Gardens, there is usually something on that appeals to everyone. I think Hamilton Gardens are an awesome place to visit anyway though so pop that on your list And Glow has given a really good list of things to do. Will try to think of some more for you ...

I just moved to Hamilton and would love to get to know some people.

I looked at the Waipa Delta website and just about fell off my chair at the prices. What they charge for a scone and a cup of tea! Yikes!

What's the summer festival? I live a 2 min walk away from the Gardens.

the hamilton zoo is great!!! we took tash there for her birthday and loved it!!
there is also gallagher aquatic center which i have heard good things about.
there are heaps of nice walks/picnic spots along the river and a chance to feed the ducks.
cambridge has the horse magic show which is pretty cool.
there is the kiwi house in otorohanga.

umm all i can think of at the moment.....
there is a big teddy bears picnic at the hamilton gardens on the 17th feb if anyone else is interested.

The summer festival is a month (I think) long series of different events at the gardens. There is music, art, theatre etc. They take place in different parts of the gardens. Some cost, but there are a heaps that are free or cheap. A couple of years ago we had a picnic in the rose gardens watching 'A midsummers night dream'. It was awesome Here is a link to a website which has all performances, dates, times & costs. Summer Festival

Teddy Bears Picnic: 10am - 3pm, $2 pp, under 1yr free
