How can people NOT KNOW to put a child in a car seat:(
Baby flung under seat in fatal crash:
A woman was killed and a 10-week-old baby was found wedged under the front seat of a car which collided with a truck in Tolaga Bay north of Gisborne last night.
Police say three of the four people in a car were unrestrained, including an older child, when the vehicle collided with a truck and trailer unit around 8.30pm. The group had been at a birthday party at a marae near Gisborne.
It appears the male driver, who had allegedly been drinking, was on the wrong side of the road and tried to correct the vehicle, but crashed into the truck which was harvesting.

honestly, it happens allllll the time here, and to be honest, so many people turn a blind eye, the amount of times i see young children standing on the back seats of moving cars is disgusting.
but also, what the f**k was the guy doin driving drunk with a 10week old baby in the car anyway???

i constantly saw people driving without restrained kids in Gisborne, much more than anywhere else. Which esp. sucks as the local Health clinic even has a fantastic car seat scheme where you can hp a seat - no deposit, $100 off, terms very flexible.
I once even saw someone driving with a baby on their lap!
And my FIL wonders why I wouldn't let Jake in the ute sitting on his knee!!!

don't you have to have a license for a dog? But anyone can have kids??!! What kind of life is the baby destined to have with parents like that? Hopefully someone more responsible and loving will take care of the baby now

just read the newspaper article on the crash, seems the baby was in the carseat, not buckled in and the carseat wasnt attached to the car, the baby was wedged under the seat and the carseat was flung meters down the road!
the woman died and the man driving survived with critical injuries, he had been drinking and crossed the centre line.
he had been drinking at a bday party.
another child in the car was taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

I always see children in cars, who are not in car seats too. It annoys me so much. I especially hate it when you are driving along, and the kids in the car in front of you are jumping about in the back seat!!! Grrrr, and don't get me started on parents smoking in cars with their kids!!!!

A van with two woman drove past me the other day , and the passenger had a baby , probably 8 or so months on her lap, in the front seat.
so when I drove up next to them at the lights i said "if you crash , your baby will go flying out that windshield...you thought of that?" then i drove off quickly in case they "gave me a hiding " haha....but thats me , speak first , think later.
It really pisses me off, do people who do that, think there is a different set of rules for them? just like the ones who drink heavily all through pregnancy ( and know they are pregnant) ?

yep even round here ive seen a lot lately - asian families with kids on their laps!!!! OMG i had thought the asian community valued their kids higher than thatt!!!! but have seen at least five times in the past weeks ....OMFG car seats are NOT that expensive! and if you cannot all fit in one car then take TWO!
