Topic: Pepti questions Posted: 24 April 2008 at 3:39pm |
Ethan's loving pepti jr so thats good but how much am i supposed to give him..hes easily finishing 150mls now but it says on the tin that much for four months or something.. do i give him another scoop? and with the other formulas we just rinsed our bottle and gave them a quick scrub with bottle brush but with pepti its taking forever to clean them..why is that? do i need to wash them in soapy water first?
boo we dont have our number yet:( a couple of questions.. and he appears to sortof bring a bit of formula back into his mouth and sortof gulp it back down..was just occasionally but now much more often is that normal? no tears or anything and then will keep drinking?

Hi foxxy_one, we were on Pepti for a while and found that our boy drunk more when we changed. We just gave him another scoop and if need be another one after that. We found after a couple of weeks that he settled into a pattern but it wasn't always what the tin said. I figured that he wouldn't drink it if he didn't want it! He also spills a bit, even on the Neocate, but it stopped him from spilling after feeds. He was bringing stuff up 2-3 hours later which he doesn't do anymore.
We also noticed the bottles were a bit harder to wash, it seems to but a 'slimmy' coating on the bottle so we had to hot soapy wash them.
Hope some of that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions I will try and help.

Hi, we saw Philip Morrison in Columbo St. He was very nice. I do know Rodger Ford is very good, my husband saw him when he was a kid and is going back this week. I work on the theory (which is just mine) that they kind opf know how much they need. When breastfeeding you can't tell so they could be having more. And its hard to tell when they are going through small growth spurts so may just need it. Our boy will do 180mls one feed then 240mls the next. If he needs more he'll cry when the bottle is finished and won't stop till he gets it. I just use the tin as a really ruff guide and then do what he wants.
If you do ask your dr, please let me know what they say, I'd be interested to know their view.
Oh, and my sister's boy was taking 240mls at 3mths and still screaming for more! They told her she would probably have to start solids early and he ended up taking the 240mls and solids, he's now 7mths and 11kg!

was the 240 pepti? i just worry its too much of a special type formula.. but as you say they say what they need..he finishes the 150 easily but doesnt cry for more.. I'm going to doc on the 1st for imms ..he is supposed to have only fruit meat and vege till 1 though he said we dont have to delay solids.. (he's 6kg already up from 3.2!:)

NO, he was on the formula for hungry babies, but it didn't seem to help with the hunger!
We have our next jabs also next week so I may ask my dr and see what she says. It would be interesting to hear if they say the same thing.

the 210ml mix (up to 250mls) is the most pepti we ever gave Connor at one time. You could try and fit an extra full feed in during the day rather than increasing the amount??? Might help the hunger issue. All three of my boys went through chaotic growth spurts where they would eat non stop for days and then sprout up a size and slow down the eating again until the next growth spurt and start the mega-eating all over again.

Hey KA, with the washing bottles... Ours are getting like a fatty build up on them and this is what the book says... "the stickiness is a slight buildup of fat from the Neocate (I assume its the same reason in Pepti). It can be removed quite easily by rinsing the bottles then washing them with bicarbonate of soda and water (1 teaspoon to 1 Litre). The bottles can then be washed in detergent and water as normal, then sterilised."
And... "Why has my baby's appetite increased since starting Neocate?" "before starting on neocate your baby may have been experiencing discomfort and distress due to gut inflammation. Because Neocate is hypoallergenic it is unlikely to cause these symptoms. Neocate hs also been shown to promote catch up growth in infants with food allergy, Your baby's improved condition and/or need to catch up growth can cause increased appetite".
Hope that helps, even tho its about Neocate

LOL Aimee, I just posted the same thing on the other thread - we used to soak our bottles once a week in baking soda and warm water to remove the film.
And as for how much Ethan feeds, I say just give him as much as he wants. Babies won't overfeed, if they take too much they spill up what they can't digest.

I didn't know that about the Neocate. I never got any information sent to me with the order, might have to ask them to include some in our next order. Has anyone had any trouble ever getting it? We are just finishing our first order and had a nightmare of a time getting the Pepti. I was having to go in and pick up a tin every couple of days cause thats all they would give me. Turned out there was only 24 tins left in the south island because the ship the next lot was coming on got stuck somewhere!

Anna, phone Neocate (0800 NEOCATE) and ask for the food allergy kit - has a question and answer book, and a few other little books and a magnet!
Greer is a lot smaller than hannah was (she 12lb 9) and she only drinks between 90-120ml! No wonder she wakes twice...

Yep, we had problems getting the last order of Pepti - apparently there were supply issues. Starship and North Shore Hospital were out - there were no tins on the North Shore - they ended up shipping them in a tin at a time from another pharmacy. The order has come through now though.
