    Posted: 06 May 2008 at 10:00pm
We have been to Jan Sinclair and Samara is allergic to milk/dairy, sesame seeds and eggs so she has said I can wean her onto Soy formula.

Are there many soy formulas to choose from? I know there is S26 Soy but want to try a sample first - do I just phone the companies and ask for a sample and if so does anyone have the numbers that I need to call?

Thanks!

You should be able to just call them, Karicare also do a soy, and there is a specific brand of soy called INfasoy. I've never really looked into them tho so have no idea how they compare pricewise. When we were trying to sort a formula for Maya years ago I rang Karicare and they were really helpful about sending out various samples.

No-one would send me out a sample so I just bought a tin of S26 Soy which she has had a bit of.

My GP recommended Infasoy but I've never been able to find it at the supermarket.

I think you can normally buy it at the pharmacy and I think (but don't quote me) that it was around the $30 a tin mark.

I think wyeth make a soy one as well.

Wyeth make the InfaSoy one I think. Thats what we used to use for Hannah and it was from the supermarket for about $20 if I remember right.

Samara is normally a spilly baby but today after the S26 Soy formula she has been spewing quite a bit. I gave her some before bed and then topped her up with breast and she power chucked everywhere so not sure if it's the formula or if it's cause she was being piggy.

Could be the soy. I'm actually surprised Jan recommended it as a lot of kids with dairy allergy also have soy allergy or intolerance as well. I guess all you can do is watc her over the next few days and see if the powerchucking continues. Good luck!

yeah 25% of those with dairy problems actually develop soy allergy due to being put on it too early. we got warned off soy by everyone:(

Jan said because she is nearly 9 months and because her RAST test came back negative for soy that it should be ok. I gave her a breast feed at 12:30 am and that all came up as well.

I've only given her one bottle today and she took 70ml and so far that has stayed down.

Hopefully it's just a random bug then and she'll be fine from now on Kim! I have my fingers crossed for you!

RAST and skin prick aren't very conclusive till after at least 12 mths, but are useful in conjunction with clinical history.

I only gave her one bottle yesterday and she didn't spew at all. Today I am going to give her two bottles and then work my way up to no boobie...maybe I gave her too much in one day for her first try???

Yeah that is quite possible, I know when you swap from one formula to another they suggest doing one feed of the new fromula the first day then two the next and so on, so I would assume its the same when swapping from breastfeeding especially as formula takes longer to digest than breastmilk.
