So its been a week since Thomas arrived by c-section - going so fast! I'm just wondering - how long were you ladies in pain from your wound for? I had my dressing taken off yesterday cuz its a little bit weepy, but my midwife doesnt think it's infected (she took a swab just in case)
It actually feels like the stitches inside are pulling, but only at the edges of the wound, making it near impossible to get out of bed or out of my chair. I'm on Tramadol for the pain which I only use at night so I can get some sleep. What do you ladies reckon?

Actual pain for both my c-sections was about 4 weeks, tender for another few weeks & completely healed over by about 6 months after.
Probably would have healed quicker if I hadn't gone back to working on the farm so soon.
Just take it easy MissAngel, it is major surgery & it will take a bit longer than a natural birth to heal. Tell your man to look after you

i was just on panadol when i came home........but can't remember what i was having when i got home with jack.......but i healed really quickly both times.....was out shopping the day after i 'got out' with charli

just make sure you take it easy and get plenty of rest...also, sitting with your wound in the sunshine (when we have some!) is good for it

if your worried at all about what your taking, talk to your mw about it and see what she thinks also

All 3 of my c-section I've been on morphine for the first 24 hours then only on voltarin and panadol for the next week. After my 1st I was back hiking up and down Te Mata Peak (hawkes bay) within 5 weeks so recovery was great. My 2nd I healed pretty well again but got infection 6 weeks post op but still don't recall any excruciating pains, and really was back into most things after 4-5 weeks. This time I've got an infection 2 weeks post op and feeling uncomfy pulling pains from within and above the wound site but my mw has put this down to having tubes tied at same time as c-section. If the pains really bad I'd definately be hitting my mw up about it. A friend simply tolerated her pains then the next time she had a c-section 3 1/2 yrs later they found damage to her bowels which had been caused during her first surgery. They fixed this and she's now pain free.

Thanks for replying everyone :D You guys are a wealth of knowledge!
I've got some half decent pain meds (tramadol & codiene) but they dont really do much as I was taking them before for my back pain and my body gets used to things REAL fast. I didnt have the morphine for long at the hospital - all it did was make me sleepy and wasted, so i stopped using it so I could actually function.
I've been getting some pretty serious cramping for the last 2 days - and its a cramp like when you have really bad wind and it just wont shift - the bowels are working however, so I know it's not a blockage (sorry for the TMI)
I'm off to see my GP this morning for something unrelated, so I might just pick his brains.
I think i'll just be glad when I dont have to wear extra padding around the wound sight to keep it dry! its so bloody uncomfortable!!!!

I was only on morphine for 12 hours after my ceasar.. epidural shunt came out just after that so I totally stopped the morphine..I was surviving on voltaren and panadol so it can't of been too bad!!

Anyone else have those daily jabs in their puku while in the hospital??

Yeah I had those jabs.
They took the morphine off me because i wasn't using it. I only took the voltaren once cos it made me throw up and I stopped taking the codeine on the second day. By the time I went home 6 days after the op I wasn't taking the panadol anymore either. I felt pretty good after 2 weeks and a 100% by 4 weeks. But everyone is different and even if you do feel ok you are still suppose to take it easy for the first 6 weeks cos of everything healing inside.

Voltaren gave me the shakes quite badly too so they gave me a lower dosage.

My tummy is still really numb now though, is that normal?? I had an emergency ceasar and they ripped me to shreds trying to get K out the sunroof they thought at one stage that they had damaged my kidneys too

I hope your GP was able to help you out.

I was on heavy pain relief injections and also tramadol for the first 2 weeks and was totally bed ridden....
After that it took me a good 4 weeks to do much else. I reckon I still have some numbness now and it is nearly 2 years.
I suppose all our bodies are so different in how they react.

My tummy is still partially numb and Leah is 20 months now!

I remember having the injections in my belly, can't for the life of me remember what they were for though!

My c/s got infected and I was back in hospital 4 days after I left so my pain was pretty constant, didn't really have a chance to settle before the infection, although I do remember that once the infection was sorted the rest healed really quickly.

Hope yours settles down too.

The injections I got for 4 days were anti-clotting ones. The pain is almost gone now for me - just little tiny niggles when I move to quick. I'm really impressed!

I was out of the hospital on day 4. I had no pain when I was home just a bit tender to touch...no weeping, no infection. MW pulled the stiches out on day 5 and it felt funny while she was doing it and I was up and moving around.....no panadol no nothing.

sometimes it's good to feel a little bit of pain...reminds you of what you've been through and to not over-do it
