Topic: Brunch ideas Posted: 09 June 2008 at 5:34pm |
DH has finally agreed to do something for his 30th next month so we are having family here for brunch. If everyone comes there will be 14 adults, 3 kids 7yrs to 13yrs.
Anyone have any suggestions for what I can serve? I want to try and have things that are easy to prepare or can be done in advance to take the pressure off. Plus I don't want to blow the budget. I thought maybe:
* fruit salad
* yoghurt
* muesli
* muffins, savory and sweet
* something like mini quiches as a subtitute for bacon and eggs
Any other ideas?

Hi Linzy, I have done a big brunch / breakfast like this but I was feeding 15 hungry kitesurfers out of a campground kitchen!!
I made mousetraps with spag, bacon and cheese so they were easy to prepare in advance and then cook as needed. I also made a big pot of really nice porridge with cinnamon and cream, and served it with warm brioche. Ummm...trying to remember what else i did....think I made up a big batch of cheesy scrambled eggs and crispy bacon and served it in warm rolls.
Good Luck!!

We had a brunch after Maya's christening and my sister had one for her 21st.
Trying to remember what we had, ummm...
Danish pastries
Ham and cheese croissants
Pancakes (we just had a giant stack and then maple syrup etc. on the side)
Sam's porridge idea sounds yummy too - but then I am craving porridge atm, strange I know!

You can often get mini bagels and mini pikelets from the supermaket and they are fab with loads of toppings - avocado and ham or smoked salmon if you feel fancy (and can stretch the budget that far).
Mini dinner rolls are great too and it takes minimal ingredients to make them look and taste like extra special filled rolls. You can do bacon and egg or salad and ham etc.
I love all things mini for these occassions.

Pikelets or pancakes and whipped cream? You can make them in advance and pop them in the freezer (not the cream!) and warm them on the day.

hadn't thought about pancakes. My Dad is good at making them, maybe I could delegat that task!
I like the porridge idea too, especially since it's getting colder in the mornings.
Suppose I will have to add cake to the list as well!
Thanks for the suggestions ladies.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
