Ella was prescribed ab's, pamol and 'brofen yesterday. Our GP checked her weight with me first before prescribing the dosages... and this is when I find out that the last Doc (after-hours one, not our lovely GP) to give her Ibuprofen had me giving her friggin 5mls of the stuff each time, and she should have only been on 3 - 3.5!!! I can't believe my poor girl got such an unnecessarily high dose because once again they screwed up on meds, and it happened at a time when I was way too tired and confused to pick up on the fact that they hadn't weighed her. I'm so angry at them!

thats aweful!!

I must say both my GP and the emergency place we go to is really really good. Specially the emergency place I took her last night, each time the first thing they do it weigh her and check Temp etc before even sitting down to ask what's wrong!

I hope you go back to them and give them a earful!! I would!

I won't put the Doc's name on here for fear of defamation, but it wasn't at City Docs (I've had too many bad experiences there) and I have to say it's the first screw-up I've had at this surgery, but still, my girl has had almost twice the dose of ibuprofen she ought to have had, and not just for that infection, but for times since when she's needed it, and that's pretty bad if you ask me. I mean, just to look at her you can tell she's not a big girl by any means - it's just bad practice not to check the weight. I've decided I'll put it in writing to the Doc as a complaint - I don't want some lame apology, I want them to re-assess their practice when it comes to writing scripts for children.

Good on you ....so you should. May be this is happening to other kids...and not all kids are strong enough like Miss E to stand that kinda dose!

At our work we had a productin worker who ended up in star ship with his little daughter because they got the dose wrong! I would hate to see that repeated!! Shocking!!

I am glad miss E is ok!!

Ok I will PM you for the name, as I have a feeling who it was.

that is terrible!!

Mind you when I went to an emergency doctor with Neosha when she was around 11 months we were getting a script and he said "now what would she weigh, around 5kg? What?!

Do you even work with babies??? she was around 9kg!! He looked shocked when I told him. Seriously some doctors!!
