Medic alert bracelets

I've ordered one of these for Ella after being advised (no, told) to at the hospital. I hadn't wanted to get her one, or any of the allergy 'products', but I think that was more part of my acceptance of her condition rather than anything else - I didn't want my daughter to be that kind of "special", but hey, it is what it is and so "special" she may be.    Since a scare in a public place where by a complete miracle she didn't ingest any of the yogurt she was trying so hard to eat, and since most Sundays in church she'll be offered random food by some well-meaning person, and since Ella can climb onto any surface and will taste anything she can, I've realised I need to do something about this. I never expected strangers to be aware of her allergy and how dangerous it is, but we're at a point now where thanks to Ella's curiosity (and the fact that some people are compelled to feed stranger's toddlers like they're ducks at a pond) she needs something to alert people to this.

I've ordered an "allergic to dairy" badge and stickers (for her lunchbox, etc) too. Has anyone else used any of these products, and did you find them helpful? Did they actually make your child safer? Do you think seeing them stopped kind old ladies from chucking peanut brownies their way? I'd hoped to wait until she started Kindy before needing any of this stuff, but turns out we need it now.       

No personal experience Andie, but for what it's worth I totally support you getting the bracelet for her. She'll probably like it anyway (like Hannah always hated wearing a hat for any reason until Ella's age when it became a fashion accessory!!). I think you'll still find people not connecting the bracelet with a food allergy though, not sure why but I always thought that medic bracelets were an alert to emergency staff and might mention a drug they were allergic to

Do you have a printer? I wonder if it would be cheaper for you to make and print your own stickers? You'll probably go through a lot, I'm guessing.

Where did you get that from Andie? We need to get one for Hannah now that she has drug allergies as well.

Ive just checked out that website. It says that the stickers are microwave and dishwasher safe so I might not go through as many as I thought.

Yay Andie! I *should* have a Medic Alert for Maya's sulpha drug allergy but like you I just don't want her to be that kind of special right now, and she's not likely to be in a situation where she'd be given sulpha meds without me being there to say hold up.

What would happen DJ? I've been asked that about Maya but I have no idea.

Sulphur is what stinks up Rotorua, and the sulpha drugs/ sulphonamides are totally different
