Topic: DHEA anyone? Posted: 29 February 2012 at 6:26pm |
have read some good reports about this DHEA and/or growth hormone? or even luveris?
Anyone used this?
What is it exactly?
How long do you take it?
Success?
Did it give better quality and quantity eggs/embryos?
Any added comments most welcome

Hi Mtjt
Hope you're feeling ok. I'm still a bit blah, but feel at bit better after my review appointment last week.
I used testosterone patches last cycle - can't remember if you've tried these or not. Theoretically similar to DHEA, very easy to use (simply apply the patch to your leg at night & remove 12hour later, start day 21 & stop when start stims), & not expensive (just the usual prescription fee).
Also took Growth Hormone (Saizen), aimed at improving egg number. It's a daily injection, taken from day 2 until day before trigger. Unfortunately it's very expensive (added around $2k to the cost of the cycle). Some side effects too - I had lots of fluid retention (around 0.5kg per day!!).
As with most of the things we try, it's hard to say how effective they were. We got our highest ever number of embryos & our 1st ever blastocyst frostie, but sadly not a BFP. Hopefully that frostie is our lucky one!
Have you talked to your FS about any/all of these? Where they receptive? What did they say?

hi rajneesmum,
thanks for your post...
yes have used testosterone patches - definitely easy 5 nights in a row - on at 9pm off at 9am easy!!
Firstly, we had an appoint with our previous clinic we used (fah) and from that meeting was told if i got this right, that taking 3 tabs a day for 3 mths prior of dhea can help with quantity? and luveris (another injection to take with gonal) helps with quality and luveris costs approx $2k - is the the same as GH/saizen i wonder? I have got a dhea script if we decide to do another cycle.
We are yet to see our Dr at repromed about this last cycle and why no luck - yet again!!!! So will see what he says about the above mentioned.
Our problem has been MFI - with sperm antibodies (due to vas reversal) and also sperm DNA frag damage - hence never getting any decent embies and NEVER any blasts!!!!!!! but hey im 40 now so who knows maybe my eggies not as good as was when we first embarked this rollercoster.
the Sperm donor question has come up again and we saw the counsellor at FAH about this. we both have mixed feelings and im not sure how to approach this with DH again.. its really hard to talk about really...
This is the most hardest thing i have ever done in my life!!!!!!!!! i would not wish this on anyone!!

Luveris is recombinent Luteinising Hormone (LH) - different from Growth Hormone, but given with the same aim of improving quantity of eggs.
The donor issue's a tricky one. Only the two of you can know if it's the right thing for you to consider. They mentioned donor eggs to us in the past, but it's not for us.
When do you see your FS next?
