Topic: Wait Times Posted: 20 July 2013 at 9:04pm |
Just had our 4th iui with fertility associates (wellington) using donor sperm fail. Pretty sure our review will recommend IVF. We're publicly funded for iui so would assume this continues for ivf as my dh has no sperm. Am curious to know how long the public wait is for ivf in Wellington or whether because we're already involved in treatment do we get to just move on up to ivf? (Yep realise that's probably quite far fetched - humour me I'm pumped on AF hormones)
Naturally will ask my nurse come test result day (Monday) but any insight welcome please.
Thanks heaps :)

Hi, I am currently on the waiting list for ivf in Welly, the wait is about 9 months( not too bad, but any waiting is hard when you want a baby so badly! If my first cycle fails, then I go back on the waiting list again, so that would probably apply in your case as well. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. The nurse told me it was about 10mths today which isn't as bad as I thought. Think we'll likely pay in the meantime I'm too impatient lol.

Me too lol, unfortunately I have to wait a while before I can pay for it myself, my funded treatment will prob come first, but all good just using the time to get as healthy as possible and trying not to think about it too much(yeah right lol)

BC so sorry this round didn't work xx You probably already know this but apparently you can pay for a private round and remain on the wait list then use a public round if you need to (know you wouldn't though as your first round will stick xx)

Cheers PP yep the nurse did mention that yesterday. Haven't discussed it properly with the Fella yet. I'm thinking we might wait until a bit later in the year just because I want to give work a break from me being all over the show.

Yeah lol have been trying to have another child for a long time now (I have a teenage daughter). It definitely changed things for her as she grew up as a only child. I had an ectopic when she was 6 and lost a tube. I was so heartbroken. I have been with my current partner for for going on 5 years, we have been trying for over 4. Think I just needed to meet the right person, that's my way of looking at it. All the tests are looking positive for both of us too. Here's to a BFP for all of us

Wow good luck peyepa! I have a friend who with her husband had a son when they were quite young. Then they got on with life and later on tried for another. Took them 6 years and 2 mc but they got the magic 2nd child this year. 15 years between no 1 and 2.

Thanx so much for your kind thoughts, makes me feel so happy to know that others out there can relate to what I'm going through on this journey to have a child. I wish all the luck in the world to both of you too
