Has anyone got/had one? How to they compare to the pill in terms of side-effects? Also I know they are subsidised through family planning, but does anyone know the approximate cost through a normal medical centre?

I had the Implanon implant when I was in Aus, which is the same thing. Aside from the annoying side affects that I had I really liked it. Not everyone has it but I had constant spotting, weight loss and nausea.

Not sure of the cost, each centre will probably be different as they will have their own associated charges.

Here is a Linky for you with info.

Ive had mine in now for only a month but so far so good.

I got a quote from my doctor for 3 doctor visits + 3 nurse visits + jadelle implant & bandages. I worked out it was going to cost about $250 all up.

I went through family planning and it cost me $30 all up.

Ive had my period once while on it and it lasted 7 days which is longer than normal but that could of just been post baby period still a bit odd. I was thinking great here we go im going to start bleeding and it wont stop but it has. So far so good.

Havent noticed any other side affects really.

Ohhh Westies Girl i wish i would get weight loss as a side affect LOL

Have you taken the mini pill before??? I went on this for 6 weeks before getting the Jadelle just to see if id get any obvious side affects. But i was fine so then went on the Jadelle

I had implanon which I think is the same thing? It made me have almost constant spotting, and my sex drive went down the toilet. For most people I know it's been fine, but if you're sensitive to hormonal contraception be careful x

If you get the implant, can you get it taken out earlier if the side effects aren't good???? Suppose I should read the link.

was just talking to my mate last night about this- she has one and loves it other than the fact it has made her skin really bad. but she can live with that and hasnt had any other side effects :)

Oh, that explains where my sex drive went too LOL!

Oh yeah, my skin seems to have breakouts too. Doctor said it is related to the Jadelle, but it's ok, they can give you stuff for that.

I also get my AF every 3 wks, which kind of sux. But at the end of the day, I like that I don't have to worry about contraception for 5 yrs. And it's better then the mini-pill.

*bump*
I am sick of the Jadelle and totally get what Julz85 said in another thread. I got it in Feb 2011 (with newborn) and didn't get AF back until Feb this year. But since then I have had AF week-about except for one 4 week cycle. AF's are heavier and longer (8 days) than I am used to as well - I never needed supers before. Some people suggest giving Jadelle time to settle in but there doesn't seem to be any change in this last month from previously.

So now what? Do I give it another couple of months or give up on it? I've previously been on the pill & minipill with had no probs so I thought I wouldn't have any problem. Does IUD use the same hormone (someone please say yes because I don't really like the idea of IUD haha).

I feel too young to make a permanent decision but the possibility of 10+ years on the pill is a bit wearying.

I got mine in december 2011, and although periods still heavy, they are very regular (29day cycle) which I have never had in my life, skin is pretty good too...I am finding hormones a bit crazy though, go a but psycho with pms, so would consider getting it taken out for that reason. I would say it takes a good 4-6months min to settle, so if you have had it in since jan 11 (not 12?) then maybe consider a mirena or something? I think they use same hormone but its localised to your uterous

I found 30 Plus tablets great for counteracting the effects mood wise. Here's a link that tells you about 30 Plus.

link

As I had the same issues with my moods and PMS. But seriously, 30 Plus is awesome! Makes my moods bearable and PMS doesn't mean me going crazy moody, like usual.

If you get the normal IUD, as in the non-hormonal one, that would be much better if you really dislike the Jadelle.

I can't have an IUD, as my body just rejects it. But if that's a realistic option for you, I say go for it. As it last for 5 years and has no hormones.

I was getting my AF every 2nd week, as in twice a month. But I was told by FPA, one way around that is to take Ibuprofen tablets from day 1 of period to day 5 and take 2 tablets 3 times a day. And that actually fixed the problem. I do get my AF every 3 weeks. But still, that's better then twice a month.

Since i commented on this post i just wanted to update.

I still really like the Jadelle. For me its the best contraception ive had so far

I do get longer heaver periods & a break out during af but other than that all is well. Although my periods were very good pre kids. So unsure if its due to having a baby or the jadelle

Busymum - I'm getting the Mirena IUD after this bub, I was set on getting my tubes tied but my OB said the Mirena is more reliable than a ligation, and if it redces/stops AF, well that's a bonus!

I have had the Jadelle implants in for 5 months now. There are 2 flexi type plastic feeling rods that are inserted just under the skin. The ends are quite sharp so when I'm breastfeeding I can feel them moving, it's uncomfortable. However I haven't had my period and with my other 2 babies I was due around 3 months postpartum. Apart from the implants moving everything is fine

Hey, there is no need to go for implants if you want to improve your intimacy, you can just go for www.pharmaciegenerique. You gonna be totally okay and there is no need to make a surgery, as for me it's always a better choice to avoid that kind of stuff. It will hurt you for sure, but pills only might do any lighter damage.
