Topic: Which Formula?? Posted: 13 January 2009 at 8:47am |
I think that my milk supply may be a bit poor late in the day so was thinking on giving my wee girl a bottle of formula for her last feed of the day. Plus she has a very slow weight gain so figure some formula may be a good idea. She has reflux but is medicated and quite settled, I also think she may be intolerant to dairy, and i have been pretty much been on a dairy free diet for over 4 weeks. What I wanted to know is what formula should I give her, soy, goats milk etc???? And what brands does everyone recommend? And how much should I give her, she is 12 weeks old. We are seeing a paediatrician but not till the start of feb and not seeing plunket till late next week, I just can't cope with the poor feeding in the evening anymore as it is stressing me and Sophia out and neither of us are happy.

i used s -26 lactose free formula for my first son but found he was having trouble so changed to nurture most formulas are whey dominant the gold versions of the formula provide extra nutrients to the normal, my bubs also has reflux and i'm pretty much dairy free too there are two recipes on the forums in the tips on breastfeeding that help boost your milk supply and its really helped me i just wish i had it for my first son as my milk dried up

We gave my boy Karicare HA Infant Formula (All ages - from birth) to start with, it's for babies at risk of allergy. I'm not too sure about the intolerant to dairy thing though. But I do know that you can ring the nutritionist at Nutricia and she will talk through stuff with you (is very helpful).
HA is more expensive than regular formula, we just used to to start with cos I have asthma and eczema and he seemed to be quite sensitive to things I ate (had reflux too - the very spilly kind, was on infant gaviscon). My boy was on formula from about 5 months I think, only about a bottle a day while I was at work.

Hi, my girl has reflux too and I suspect a dairy intolerance. She spills so much that we top her up with formula at each feed. The formula we use is Nurtricia Karicare HA AR. So it is the hypoallergenic formula but it is also thickened. You have to mail order it but it arrives the next day and is compartative price to supermarket, in fact, cheaper than goats formula. The place you get it from is called BioLab. You can order online or over the phone.
www.biolab.co.nz
There is an 0800 number for phone orders and I have looked all over my house but can't find it sorry. I got the number from the Nutricia helpline. Good luck with everything.

Hi there, i just noticed this thread and i have just been to the peadiatrician on Tuesday. My son has multiple food allergies aswell as dairy, and my peadiatrician put me on to soy formula, however if you are going you will also be put on it and get a number in which you can get it discounted. My son is 18 months old and i stopped dairy 4 weeks ago and put him on soy and it made a huge improvement, when he was a baby he was on goats milk as he would not take any other formulas.
So i would try soy formula, and then wait to see what the pead says.
Good luck as it is all new to me with my son and i am just learning what foods ti give my son.

Thanks for all your advice, we off to paed in two weeks. In the mean time she is on Soy full time now and doing okay thou still not a big drinker. Seems less spilly on it but we are on omprazole fornher reflux. I have got some of the Nutricia Karicare HA bit it is not AR, but think I will try some of this before we go to paed so that I have some info for him. Will just choose a day where I can cope if she reacts and is unsettled!!!
