Thickening Neocate

i would talk to your paed about it.... i definitely wouldn't thicken it at all but ring your paed and follow their advice.

You don't have to use the thickener in the formula, it can be given as a gel before a feed as well.
Just looking at the ingredients on my can and it only has Maltodextrin, Starch (from Maize) and Carob bean gum. I guess the risk of it having a milk protein content would come only from it being produced in the same factory as the formula, I would think it would be a small risk.
The instructions say you can thicken special formulas with the food thickener but that you should consult your doctor first.

I just wondered because I was looking at that breast is best unless website and there was a story about a baby who had reflux and a lactase deficiency as well. Lactase is the enzyme we use to digest lactose and not having enough of it can cause a lot of pain and reflux.
Just a thought, I go through just about every scenario trying to work out why Isobelle's reflux seems to be getting worse instead of better. It is so confusing though because a lot of the syndromes have symptoms that are exactly the same.

We have used thickener but now use a special allergy and thickened formula, its just easier for me with the two of them. Isobelle is an excessive spiller and so was already constipated before we changed to formula. The thicker milk really helped regulate and rehydrate her. Her poos are very thick, like cake mixture but not that dry, crumbly stuff that constipated babies do, and she does one everyday now instead of every 2 weeks. So for us its a good thing.
If the neocate is really thin it will be very easy for it to come up again, so thickener might be worth a try.
