Topic: full time kindy.. Posted: 25 February 2009 at 11:51am |
Hi guys, I've been thinking about putting DD into kindy full time instead of just mornings. I don't work so does this make me a crap Mum?
I'm just struggling a bit at the moment both kids are becoming less independent and their behaviour is getting more challenging. I just feel really worn out. I've always said I don't believe in fulltime care when your not working but I'm not enjoy anything at the moment. Besides that my MIL is always on at me to put DD into full days at kindy...I haven't talked to DH about it since asking him y his Mum was suggesting it all the time, she'd be at kindy for 6-7 month until she starts school. Is this just me being a bad Mum?

No your not a bad mum! I would look at it as "My DD is starting school soon and needs to learn about being away from mum all day and doing as teachers ask, routines etc of school" so on and so on. I see it more as getting DD prepared for going to school, and hey if it's really cause you need a break then who cares? You are doing what is right for you...
My DD daycare has a "Kindy Side" and the kindy kids are there from when they are 3.75 yrs until they start school, they do things like mat time, the bell rings for morning / afternoon tea / lunch, they have a lunchbox for the day and the kids have to spread their lunch to last all day etc... really good skills that your DD wouldn't always learn at a morning / afternoon session at kindy...
IMO I would put her into Kindy after talking to DH of course and prepare her for school and give you a break
Sorry for the ramble!!

Go for it., She'll love it & you'll love the break, it doesnt' make you any less "great" as a mum.
Definitely a good idea for the transition to school.

No way! If she is four and not needing a sleep in the day, and you think she would really love it, then it would be good prep for school for her. If on the other hand she really needs time by herself at home or is feeling left out from you and her sibling, then you may need to be careful with how you step up the hours.

oh my goodness, if my daughters kindy had run all day instead of just morning , I would have been the first to put her in it !
I think it would have prepared her a lot better for school, she finds school really "long " compared to kindy

not at all full time kindy will be great prep for school. Brianna is in full time kindy from 8.30am till 2.30pm monday till friday and she has been since last feb she loves it and she will be fine at school since she pretty much been doing the same hours. all thats different for her is she will have to go on the school bus.

Not at all. You can at least try it, and if it doesn't work, it can be tucked away as experience. If your daughter enjoys kindy, then she will love more play time with friends.
I think you are a friggen awesome Mum for seeing that somethings gotta give, and then doing something about it, instead of letting yourself get to far down
