Disclaimer - this is a little bit of a pity post.
We have been off the OCP since Jan this year with no result so far. Until this month my a/f has been totally regular (to the day each month!), but this month I have had dark brown spotting and am not due for a/f until next week. I took a test and it was neg - again!
I dont know whether I should be woried that we havent got pg yet - i mentioned it to my GP and got the usual response - we dont worry until you have been trying for a year / lose weight / excersise etc etc. She wants me to have an ultrasound for PCOS, but I have been struggling to get an appt for that, and I dont personally think that I have PCOS - but then who knows?
I am starting to get really down about it, and I find it hard to talk to DH about it as he thinks its too soon to worry. Everyone around me seems to be having more babies - and everyone is asking us when we are going to have #2 , and I am starting to find it hard to cope with. Am I over-reacting? How long before I should start to worry?
Sorry - its a bit of a pity party here today! 
ETA - I have made an appt for the ultrasound. I am going to take Oli with me.

I have been told by heaps of people not to be too surprised if number 2 takes a while. That just bummed me out!
I can understand how you are feeling, and no I dont think you are silly to worry that something is wrong. Its natural I think, especially if number one happened quickly.. (not sure if he did).
Have you asked your dr for bloods to check your egg stores and confirm ovulation? If not then I would be asking for those.. it cant hurt and given that its coming up to the 12 onth mark anyway I dont see why they should have a problem doing them.
Not much help, but feel free to pity away to us

Thanke Melnel, I had a full blood work up a few weeks back, but dont think that included ovulation and egg stores? I might make an appt to see my Dr and organise to get those bloods done.
#1 wasnt exactly quick - but took about 6 months.

They refer to them as Day 2 (or 3) and Day 21... forgive me if you know this already but the Day 2 will check your FSH levels (and some other stuff) which gives an indication of how high (or low) your egg stores are. Day 21 (or 7DPO to be more accurate as we dont all ovulate on Day 14 and have 28 day cycles) will check your progesterone levels to see if you have ovulated.
As the names suggest you have the blood tests on CD 2 or 3 and CD 21 or whenever your 7DPO is .
If nothing else it will at least put your mind at rest to know whether your egg supply is still good and you are ovulating or not.

oh hugs to you SimSam I think we all have these days when TTC.
MelNel has said pretty much everything, I was just going to add that you might want to join our charting thread too. The girls are so knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. I have only been charting a couple of months, but found out my LP was too short to sustain a pregnancy. Took Vitamin B6 on the girls advice and this month my LP lengthened to `within a normal range'. If I hadn't been charting I wouldn't have had a clue.
I am also trying for number 2. Number 1 took 9 months, plus I am fighting the biological clock ...I really get worried some days too. Hang in there hun

Your post sounds like something I could have written myself except of course we're TTC #1. I have been off the bcp since January and haven't used protection since.
I'm 36 and this does have some impact on how long it can take me to conceive. My GP said to wait 12 months, but as that time is nearly up, I am now waiting for AF to turn up so I can go for CD2 bloods just to make sure everything is working as it should. No use waiting 12 months if its not.
You may be surprised at how long it takes other to conceive, its not until I start talking about our TTC journey that I started hearing about how long it took my friends in some cases 9 - 12 months.
Apart from OB its not something women seem to discuss with each other

Is it possible that the dark spotting a week before AF is due is implantation bleeding???? and the fact the test was negative is because it is too early ????
Just a thought. Whatever I hope things go well with you and you get that BFP real soon

I've just been looking up spotting just under a week before AF is due SimSam, because I've had that today too. Apparently it can be implantation bleeding, and it can still be too early for an HPT to show positive. Hopefully it's good news for you. Good luck!

Hugs!! I'm in the same boat my bubs is just over one - it took me ages (years to conceive her - no protection for about 7-8 years), I'm sure doing sureslim helped me get pregnant and when I was least expecting and on the waiting list to see the fertility docs it happened. I was hoping number two wouldn't be so hard (haha) so far nope! I have irregular periods as well and trying to get my head around when its the right time does my head in! I'm sure the diet and exercise thing (yes I am overweight) is all part of not falling pregnant again - fingers crossed it happens for you soon!

Hugs SS as you know I am in exactly the same boat as you!
I feel exactly how you feel and TBH the comments of when are we having another one are now being answered with a "its not through lack of trying" this soon puts them in their place and shuts them up!
I am having the day 3 and day 21 bloods done this month and I am seeng a Natural Fertility Specialist now
This is all so new to me too as all it took with Lauren was one drunken night the week before our wedding without protection and I was UTD 
I am not sure if your keen but I have been charting to find out what my body is doing and I have learn't so much about the female reproductive system!

My first thought was the same as Buttersmum and Victoria. If AF isn't due until next week it could well be implantation bleeding, in which case, the HPT would've been too early to pick anything up.
I would also push your GP for more tests. If you've had one successful pregnancy then I don't imagine there would be much to hinder a second.
Hopefully the ultrasound shows a good reason for it, or gives you an all-clear to keep trying, IYKWIM?
As I've mentioned a million times before, I got pregnant with Hannah on my 18th cycle.
However, I had an unexpected pregnancy in 2004 (which ended in mc, obviously).
Talk about going from the sublime to the ridiculous!!
And as for the nosey "when is #2 coming?" questions, I like Peachy's response. Short and to the point. Will make people stop asking pretty quickly 
And try to remember they're just well meaning.
I mean, Oli is pretty darn cute, they're just excited by the prospect of another cutie-patootie like him

Thanks everyone - the scan was okay - not very much fun, but glad its over with! I wont know the results until they send the report to my GP - so prob early next week! Def didnt see anything in there though - so thats good to know at least!
