The ones for Andrew's 3rd birthday are the the photo gallery. They were a three covered in bug lollies. A plain square cake covered in lollies.
For his 2nd he had a 2 that was a race track and a train.
For his 1st he had sponge bob at both parties, we hired a tin and just decorated it.
He had 2 cakes as he has a daycare party for each birthday.

Australian Womans Weekly do a kids birthday cake book that is really cool. Mum brought it when we were kids and its still very useable today so maybe worth the investment. The have an updated version now and think its about $25.

Yeah Mum always made us cakes from the Womens Weekly Birthday Cake book.
She did the train once for my cousin, and it had loads of carriages... and she used coloured popcorn for the smoke.
I got a piano cake, a lion cake, a doll in a cake with a marshmellow dress, and some of the number cakes.
Radness.

Ooh Meow I'd love to see the butterfly cake! My Ella is having a butterfly party for her birthday next month and I have no idea how to do a butterfly cake!

Oh I think we've decided on a teddy bears picnic theme. I had a flick through the cake book mentioned above and saw a very cute, simple one that had 2 teddies having a picnic on it (duh! hehe). So that would be easy peasy to recreate.
Or... I was thinking maybe I could get a bit more ambitious and try a Care Bear cake.

Meow, (I'm sorry, I've completely misplaced your real name! ) I've been wondering this for a while, but how do you make the dessicated coconut coloured? Surely it's not as simple as putting food colouring with it, is it?! Please explain thank you muchly.

Have you got the latest women's weekly cake book? As that's where I got the safari idea from, it tells you what to do. You just have to toast it in the frying pan, making sure it doesn't burn

ooh, i wanna post pics of Jake and taine's - will find them later. Taine had a tractor that I got from the internet (and some helpful advice from janine), Jake got a truck and Blues Clues... and a lion (for playcentre cake). Not sure about this year as Jake isn't having a party - we'll be in Rotorua so will take him for an outing for his big day then have a family dinner - still need a cake though.
Oh, and have a b-day cake I made for my friend Shaun...aaaah, maybe not appropriate in this forum - emma might kick me offf = slightly "risque"

Meow you have inspired me!! What kind of cake did you use for the butterfly? I'm thinking I might do a chocolate sponge...?

I think it was just an edmonds or alison holst one. The only prob with sponge is that it leaves lots of crumbs when you ice it..
I found the "pattern" for the cake online, typed in butterfly cake or something and i found the way to cut it and arrange it like a butterfly.
