Introductions!

Might as well kick this topic off huh!

I'm first time pregnant with fraternal boy/girl twins.

DH & I had been trying for nearly 4 yrs to get preggers & we were sitting in an IVF clinic 10 days before getting our BFP - so lucky we didn't have to start the treatments!!!!

We feel truly blessed to be here finally...

Hi ladies, am new here but just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on the twins wannabe. We have 4yr old twin boys. The fun never ends, they are such a blast, can't believe we've had them for almost FIVE years already!! Welcome to the rollercoaster :)

Congratulations. My boys were monochorionic - 2 sacks and they shared a placenta. yes it is sightlier riskier as they are Identical twins and can get twin to twin transfusion in the womb, but the doctors monitor for this and it doesn't happen to everyone

I'm in Aucks too (Clevedon/Papakura area) & currently 26.5 weeks pregnant with fraternal boy/girl twins.

How far are along are you???

Have you joined any of the 4 Auckland Multiple Birth Clubs (they are on Facebook too) as they are really helpful & we're halfway (2 of 4 Sat arvos) through multiple antenatal classes with 13 other twin mums-to-be & 1 mum-to-be of triplets & finding that fantastic. If you want details PM me! Oh yeah, 3 of the twin mums-to-be are IVFers too!

Cool HennyPenny, we found out we were having twins at 8 weeks. I didn't know whether to laugh or not, but I did for weeks. It didn't seem real!!

If you are in west Auckland, then our local MBC is Waitakere (that's the one I am in)

Hennypenny I don't have much in advice other than rest up and take it easy. I can't imagine how scary the bleeds must have been for you! I guess in situations like these all you can really do is try to keep up the power of positive thinking xxx Keep us updated

We're having DC/DA fraternal boy/girl twins and it's been quite a ride so far - I'm 29 weeks tomorrow.

Sorry I wanted to reply sooner but had to go back through all our scan reports to make sure we had the same thing.

OK, at our 12wk ultrasound & nuchal scans they discovered two areas of subchorionic haemorrhaging: one by the dividing membrane measuring 4.9cm x 1.6cm x 4.1cm (with 17mls of fluid) and another inferior to one of the twins gestational sac measuring 5.3cm x 1.1 cm x 4cm (?mls fluid).

Prior to this scan I had had several light bleeds. My Obstetrician did a quick portable fuzzy scan each week from week 8 to 14 to check that there were still two heartbeats and movements but did not pick up the haemorrhages. I was put on house arrest from week 8 to week 15 & advised NOT to do ANYTHING involving lifting, pushing, or straining (including going to the toilet!). Kinda hard when I was so constipated anyway - sorry to much info!

Anyhoo - I rested up, with great difficulty & the bleeding stopped a week or two later, & I was cleared to go back on light duties with no stress (kinda hard when you're a relief teacher).

By the time we had our 20 wk scans there were no trace of the haemorrhages so I must have done something right!

Sizes:
Twin 1 (boy) has aways measured slightly bigger than Twin 2 (girl) & at our 26 week growth scan he is almost 110gms heavier (960grams) so we are now on 2 weekly growth scans to make sure she is still growing. She sure does wriggle/kick ALOT more than him so maybe she's burning more calories

Next growth scan is tomorrow so I'll let you know how they are growing.

Hello ladies!

Back from our 29wk growth scans.

Good news is she is only 70gms smaller than him now - 3 weeks ago she was 110gms behind. He is still breech on the left & she's still transverse & sitting on his head!

Weights:
He is 1370gms but has dropped from 80th percentile to 50th for his abdominal circumference.
She is 1300gms and has dropped from 50th percentile to 25th for her abdominal circumference.

I've just googled average gestational weights for twins (there are none), & for singles. At 29 wks they should be around 1150-1260gms so I feel relieved that I haven't been starving them - although my appetite has dropped right off & I get fuller much quicker now.

Right off to have a lay down - I can hardly keep my eyes open as had a real crap sleep last night.
