Topic: Update Posted: 15 April 2008 at 11:47am |
Well we went down to Wellington yesterday to see a private paed (btw the public appt I had made for next week, got bumped to May so glad I made a private appt). She was nice, but I dont think she was entirely convinced that Greer needs Neocate as we havent had a definite reaction, and I dont think she liked me telling her what I wanted! But, she has done everything for us. Apparently she was going to fill it out straight away (we only took up about 15 mins of a 40 min appt so she had plenty of time!) and it will take 10 days or so. She also gave me a script to take to the chemist to see if they can get me some at subsidised price now - went to see them this morning and he said they will sort something out. So yay! In a few days we should be all set!
She wasnt too concerned about the other things going on, but she said it probably is reflux. I will just keep an eye on things and talk to my lovely GP if I am worried.
Thank you so much for all your help and supplies over the last wee while.

thats great..better than me..though i did get the 4$ stuff form the allergy man it says it takes 2-3 weeks and that until they ring me and thats after the allergy place posts them the number..he said Ethan isnt bad enough to need Neocate so we are on Pepti..(and that those who really need it had to come first)
it sucks you had to go all the way to Welly though! is Greer doing better now?

Yay Aimee! I was just about to bug you for an update! I was a bit sneaky with Mercedes, we went to their general paed and I bullied him into the funding # lol.

Hi, my wee boy is now on Neocate. Took 2mths to get it that way. We went to the ped and were put onto Pepti-Jr. But about a mth ago he started vomiting a bit again so we went to our GP. They can (for those who dont know) change them to Neocate without you having to go to the ped. This is because you use the same sub number. All they have to do it write a letter to the ped and let them know.
Flynn also has reflux and is on losec. We couldn't believe the change when we got on both. Make sure if you think things need to move along with that side that you just keep pushing. People kept telling me that I was just over reacting but I knew that if thought there was something wrong then I was most probably right. After all, don't people always tell you that mum knows best!

Thanks for that Anna. I still dont think things are quite right and although she is much more settled she still seems very uncomfortable/unhappy at times. And I worry that she is aspirating as well cos sometimes I can hear her rattling away. She always gets the hiccups from sicking and swallowing. I think I might make a doctors appt for in a few weeks in case, but I want to give just the neocate a good go by itself for a while first.

Hi, that sounds just like Flynn. Have they listened to her lungs just in case?
We had to call 111 for Flynn a few weeks ago because he aspirated really bad (we hadn't given him his losec the night before because we were at a wedding) and couldn't breath well. We had called my parents and health line first but when my mum got here and toke him from me he went very limp and wasn't responding, very horrible to watch your own baby like that, so we called 111. He came to and we took him up to emerg. They told us to keep an eye on his chest and sounds as if they do aspirate, it can get into the lungs and be almost like phumonia (I have no idea how to spell so I hope you understand!).
I hope I don't worry you or anyone reading this who is going through allergy and reflux things, as I think Flynn is a bit rear with this kind of things, but I only found out the stuff I have from others who have been through sim situations and I am so pleased they told me what they learnt. I don't find the doctors always tell you everything.

Nah its good and like you say thats how you find stuff out. I am actually a respiratory physio which is why I think I worry most about her aspirating as I know how nasty an aspiration pneumonia can be. And I can feel it in her chest sometimes (under my hands). Have made a docs appt for next week, just in case.
