Hiya,
I'm just wondering ...I have a 7 month old baby and feel like I'm getting PND. Is this too late after the birth to get it? I've just had to give up breast feeding and feel like all the wonderful calming nuturing hormones that I did experience have gone and now I'm teary and upset, feel ugly and like I have no self esteem. I keep forgeting lots of things and I find it really embarrassing. I just feel like a noodle head!!!
I've been trying to 'ride it out' but my mother called tonight just after I'd had a meltdown and told me she thought I should see a doctor.
I'm coping absolutely fine through the day but as soon as hubby comes home, I lose the plot which is weird because he is a sweetheart.
I have suffered from depression before but this is so different. I don't know what's up with me.
I'd have a chat to your doctor. There could be a number of reasons why you're feeling low such as low thyroid levels or hormonal changes related to stopping BFing. Hope you feel better soon .
Yes I'd talk to your doctor. I don't think there's a time limit on PND. It may be as Kim said that your hormones are all over the show now you've stopped BFing. Either way the doc should be able to help.
Your hormones go a bit funny when you stop BF so I would think it was normal to feel a bit off. But I think if you are even a little bit worried about the way you feel you should have a chat to your Dr and see what they can suggest.
I get teary when DH gets home too, even though I love him being around!!
Thank you so much for your replies! I did end up by seeing a doctor who specialises in PND. He was just fantastic. I had been on Dompheridone, a drug to help produce milk and was told that by my LC that it would be fine to go off it cold turkey. Well....she was incorrect in my case. I was on a very high dose and I think stopping it suddenly just threw me right off course. Besides that I was really upset that I couldn't feed my girl anymore after huge efforts to get going in the first place. I am feeling alot better now. Still feeling porky so bought myself a rowing machine and have been walking on every fine day (ha ha...not many of those).
rachelz4kidz are you OK? I'm sorry that you're not feeling great either. What's happening for you? I hope you're ok too. I really appreciated your messages today :-)
