Topic: Helpful websites Posted: 11 December 2008 at 11:22am |
I thought it might be great if we put together a directory of helpful sites for those of us who are living with food allergies or intolerances and then get admin to sticky it for us.
I have coeliacs disease which means I am on a lifelong gluten free diet and I also need to keep my children gluten free until after 12 mo. My fav sites are:
www.mfd.co.nz (this is the NZ manufactured food database and is invaluable for those who need to avoid any of the following: egg, legumes, milk, peanuts, soya, wheat, gluten or lactose).
www.coeliac.co.nz (this is the Coeliac Society of NZs website and has a recipe section and a restaurant/bakery/cafe guide).
www.celiac.com (an overseas online support site that has interesting articles as well as a recipe section).

Just found this link explaining some food allergies & intolerances linky
A food allergy is an immunological reaction to one or more proteins.
Food intolerance is the term used for non-immune reactions to food; however they do involve the immune system.

www.vistaprint.com
I've just ordered stickers saying "SAFE FOOD" and "NOT SAFE", to use on the food in the freezer/fridge/pantry. So if my husband or someone is giving the kids lunch, they can easily see what's been OK'd by mum!
If you sign up first, then wait for an email, you will get a better deal :) It' really cheap too :)
