Can some wise people please explain the difference between the two? And also what age ect do you start to look at each for your child?

There are a couple of people from a mothers group whos children are younger and have started looking at options for their wee ones and i wonder if Emily would do well from the contact with other wee ones but am not really sure where to start, im guessing i just pop around to the local ones for a nosy???

Thanks

i suppose the major difference would be that playcentre you go with your kids to, and kindy you drop them off?

Playcentre is from newborn to age 6. It is parent led so you go with your child and run the session along with all the other mums. There is also a small amount of coursework etc that has to be done.

Starting kindy generally depends on the centre - ours started at 3y3m but other are earlier and some even start around 4 depending how busy they are. At ours they start at afternoon from 1 til 3.30 then when 4.5 then go to morning kindy from 8.15 til 12.

If you are interested in being hands on then Playcentre is awesome! I took DD from about 18mths til end of last year and it did wonders for her confidence and she loved having the interaction with the other child and I didn't feel like I was "abandoning" her (my own personal feeling) by putting her into daycare or similar when I had made the decision to be a SAHM
Kelly, mum to DD, 19Jun06 (26wks 1lb15oz) DS1, 24Oct10 (32wks 4lb11oz) and DS2, 31Dec11 (32wks, 4lb11)

I dont think all playcentres make you stay (that wasnt worded how I mean). I am pretty sure you have to stay when they are under a certain age but then after that you take turns to be on duty so to speak.

If Emily is going to coffee groups and other preschool activities she will be mixing enough. Its bollocks (IMO) that they need to be socialising.....Its the mums that need the socialising.

You may want something when bubs comes along. I was in turmoil about that when James was due. I didnt want to "Send Tom away" but everyone was telling me I would need the break. In the end I started him at daycare a couple of half days when James was about 5 months and Tom would have been 21months. I did it because I could see Tom wanting more stimulation than I was able to do while feeding James etc. So for 2 half days I knew he was getting to do all the messy play and climbing, jumping etc that we dont really do at home. He LOVED it!!

In saying all this James is thriving at daycare too. I am back working part time so he goes for 8 hours a week and I have noticed a huge change in his confidence....possibly more than I ever saw with Tom. So each child is different
