Topic: Yet ANOTHER name thread- Boys and Girls! Posted: 27 April 2010 at 12:38pm |
Ok so we don't know what sex baby is going to be, and we are kind of running out of time (I said I wanted a short list of names sorted by 30 weeks... Well, its nearly that!)
Our last name is Meijers- said as in Mike Myers (so same pronunciation, just Dutch spelling)
I also have a few rules (thanks weegee :P)
-We don't want any G names or C names as Dutchies can have trouble pronouncing them (EG the MIL can't say Craig or Greg- it comes out the exact same)
-Names can't have any Y's in them (simply cos of the Dutch alphabet!)
-We are unsure about some J names, EG Johannah. Here its Jo, but there it'd be said as in YohannaH, so still suggest them but we'll have to think about pronunciation.
-We don't want something too common-EG we like the name Jack, but its been in the top 10 for the past few years so is out.
-Not too keen on M names. DH is a MM and we don't really want a child With MM initials.
-We do like Dutch names, but not something TOO Dutch, IYKWIM.
So: HELP! Please... If you can... Throw some name ideas at me!

Can you see why we are having so much trouble It hard when you don't want a common name, but don't want something too unusual...
English names are ok. So likes of Grace, Heidi, Thomas, etc as long as they aren't too common... It doesn't HAVE to be a dutch name (we will be have one dutch-ish name, be it first or second it doesn't matter)...
It doesn't help both our families are HUGE and we don't wanna use a name that someone close already has, so although we've liked a few they are out as we have relatives too close with that name! Even though half them are on the other side of the world DH still doesn't wanna use the names...

I LOVE the dutch name Famke for a girl. Can't think of any boys names at the mo.
My dads side of the family are all dutch, but most of the names are very different and my Dad changed his name when he was 5 as he got teased at school here in NZ.

Oooh I showed DH this, and Julz he was stoked you put Pieter up.. If we have a wee boy it will be his middle name- its a family name thats been going in their family for generations (it swaps, will be Matthijs, then Pieter, then matthijs, then pieter... and so on!)
Well after reading through this thread last night, and another baby name book, we have a couple of names thanks for the help guys!!
Now 10 weeks to go, to find out boy or girl!

i LOVE the name Saskia! Might have to put that on my list for future reference
Can't think of any others...... Julz pretty much covered all my suggestions. Love the name Isla by the way
