I had an interesting convo today. A mum reckoned that butter has less protein in it because it's mostly fat...

What I understand is regardless of what part of the whole milk it is, ie whey, butter, milk it still all has dairy protein in it. So if he's intolerant/allergic to dairy protein, it doesn't matter that it's the fat part of dairy that butter is made of cause it's still all got the protein in it.

Do I make sense & is she right?

If so maybe it's a good idea to introduce butter only in cooking as it's got a supposed lower protein amount?

Hmm. Good question. I'm pretty sure butter would still have some proteins in it. I started DD on yoghurt first, because the proteins were partially pre-digested by the bacteria, so I figured that was a good starting point. So maybe yoghurt in baking?

No idea-I thought it was all the same, but I know u r less likely to react to cottage cheese and plain unsweetened yogurt,cant remember why tho, lol!

I knew DD was very intollerent to dairy through my breast milk, long before she started solids. When she started solids we avoided everything dairy,and everything that contained any dairy products - MIL gave her a tiny bit of toast with butter on it and she had her first allergic reaction. She out grew her allergy by 18 months.

I have tried him on unsweetened yoghurt in the past but he'll eat it one day & then the next refuse it. Only tried it with about a tablespoon. figured in baking an easier idea.

Will try something with just butter.

I have found some answers.

Butter doesn't list/contain DIETARY protein but it contains milk protein...Two completely different things.
