QuoteReplyTopic: Replacing leg elastic Posted: 30 May 2011 at 12:44am
I've got some baby cheeks pockets which are a OSFA with snaps on the elastic and I need to replace the elastic, does anyone know how it's done? Or can you point me in the right direction? I know that I'll need a snap press or pliers but want to get started on the elastic in the meantime.
Its simple- Remove the stitching that is around the elastic. Mark where the elastic is then remove it. Tack one end of the elastic back on (7mm or bigger), then stetch the elastic and nappy out and mark the elastic where you want to sew it on. Then tack the other end of the elastic on (when not stretched out). Then put your machine onto zig zag and do that all the way along the elastic while streched out to hold it in place.
Why would you need a snap press and pliers? There should be no reason for you to remove the snaps...
Thanks Wriggles, it's a OSFA so instead of having snaps in the front you just shorten/lengthen the leg elastic with the snaps. Baby Cheeks The elastic is only sewn on the ends and runs inside a pocket/channel thingy (like ties on pants). I guess I just need to unpick one and see what happens luckily I have one with a hole so it doesn't matter if I ruin it haha.
Well I have just discovered after undoing a whole bunch of stitching on one that unless I undo the actual leg stitching it can't be done because it appears to be stitched into the PUL and fleece stuff. Oh well, guess this means I can try to make some more
Wriggles - how much would you charge per nappy? I have a ton of fuzzi bunz that need the leg elastic replaced but I am sewingly incompetent and they pretty much do the job anyway but some really need doing.
