The thought of secondary infertility is dawning on me, anyone having probs conceiving after having 1 child?

It breaks my heart that DD may not have a sibling and the constant insensitive comments about hurrying up to have another, she'll be spoiled, lonely, demanding blah blah it all doesn't help!

I'm surrounded by Mum's that are pregnant or already have number 2/3

Any advice? I'm thinking of heading to GP anyway, but Im tempted to self refer to a specialist. I'm also working on getting my weight down, exercise and having good nutrition

Hey Tiger Lily, yup.. secondary infertility here too... slightly different story to you tho..
But definately understand how you feel with the comments about only child.. how its selfish etc etc... ours have kind of dropped off now, but when DS was 2 every 2nd person felt it was their place to critise the fact that he was (and still is) an only child, which was absolutely heart breaking for us.
But I would definately pop along to your GP, they will be able to run standard bloods to make sure you're ovulating etc, and may be able to put your mind at ease.
Depending on how long you have been trying one of the fert clinics might not be a bad idea, but I would try GP 1st, they may even refer you on.
Good luck to you & hope #2 isnt far away :)

Luckymama and tiger lily. So sorry for what you're going through. Sometimes I think it would be harder than no having any children to begin with. You know that your body can do it, you know what it's like to be pregnant, have a baby etc etc and yet it seems as if the ability to experience that all again is being snatched away from you every time. I have no idea, having never had children, but I do know how it feels to be pregnant and then to have that dream snatched away. I hope you both have your dream realised one day soon.

Luckymama, I am so sorry that you have people judging your single child status. How dare they? They don't know you or your circumstances at all! I thought people would be a little more understanding in this day and age. Hugs to you.

Yup me!! Its very frustrating as its unexplained after getting preg with #1 after one uncareful night. Seeing a specialist but no real answers as to why we are having problems. Its almost worse not knowing why because at least if you know you can make a plan but when you dont know you feel helpless. And dont get me started at the number of people who make insensitive comments!

Just want to inject some hope in here, we had baby #1 due to a "she'll be right" moment, so were utterly gobsmacked that #2 proved difficult to catch. The comments are hurtful & insensitive especially as they don't know you're trying your hardest to get pregnant.

I highly recommend seeing a Naturopath, I eventually threw up my hand in defeat after 16 months & saw a GP for the IVF track & my naturopath in case he could shed some light. I started taking tablets before my AF even ended & that month I got pregnant. I put it down to what he gave me, cause month after month it was all the same things we were doing.

When we decided to try for #3 I contacted him straight away so we didn't have the same situation.

I think we had the issue of not being able to get pregnant as well as having miscarriages when I did.

Good luck & I hope those illusive little babies come your way.

^ thank you, what exactly will a Naturopath do?
Do they do an assessment of you or do you just walk in and they throw some pills at you?

My hubby is still in the "she'll be right" camp, he doesn't understand why it upsets me so much, don't get me wrong he's definitely support and willing to listen, but I guess the yearning isn't there for him, he's so besotted with our little girl, he's asked me a few times why she isn't enough.
I don't know how to explain it to him, I always saw us as a family of 5, I fantasised about having 3 little girls, it's more like a mourning for the future that hasn't happened, it that makes sense? Much like I guess it is for primary infertility

I'm too late in my cycle for the CD2 blood test, but thought I might see about the CD21 test anyway as a start. I've had the same GP for 10 years and although he's lovely this feels like a very private issue, it's not anything about him, it's more how I feel, I think I'd almost be more comfortable talking to a virtual stranger about ie: fertility specialist.
I'm thinking of making a private initial appointment anyway, I think the waitlist is 6 months for our area, I probably won't be able to get in privately until Jan/Feb.

Thanks for all your kind comments

They do an assessment of you.

The GP will just order the blood tests & send the referral on to the clinic so you really only have to see them for the initial appointment. Well that is how it happened at my Drs.

Our first took 2 months and we were pregnant. We have been trying for a while for number 2 and it is draining! even more annoying as a friend found out we were trying for number 2 and decided they should have their 2nd (after saying they were going to buy a house now thats not important) and boom straight away argh... baby making can be depressing!
