Hey
Just wondering
Is there any truth to the accupuncture thing
Its just im willing to try almost anything
The wait till april/ may seems so far away (although i know intellectually its not)
Im taking elevit- are there any other pills anyone thinks might be helpful - like ep oil?
what about those ovulation testers on the tv - from the chemist
its just all so exhausting
and i feel so darn impatient
im sooo sick of waiting
oh and
should i try to loose weight - i gained like 6 kilos over xmas and i feel like doing one of those dumb shakes and loosing weight dramatically things although i know its not a good idea - i feel like its my last chance to loose weight and it might help me get pregnant - im 165cms and 76kilos now
and am i over doing it - i go to the gym 6 days a week
oh boy its just hard and i dont know what i dont know
ok thats enough from me
thanks for reading this far

I know alot of girls on the everybody.co.nz board swear by acupuncture, so it may be worth a go. One of the girls from everybody who is 42 with a lot of medical issues working against her, and who has been through 4 or 5 unsuccessful rounds of IVF has been working with a acupunturist in Auckland called Vitalis and she sings his praises. She has just had a natural BFP and is now about 6 weeks pregnant.
I would make sure that the acupunturist specialises in fertility issues - if you are in Auckland, try Vitalis - or perhaps there are others on this board who can make recommendations.

I don't know about accupuncture, so unfortunately I haven't got any input there.

But, with regard to weight, extreme diets aren't good for anyone, let alone someone TTC. I wouldn't do it if I was you. If you are going to the gym 6 days a week that should well and truly help you with the weight issue, and of course the other way is healthy eating. It shifts the weight more slowly, but doesn't do you any harm. You need to have less than a BMI of 35 for IVF accordingly to a person (who used to work for FA) I spoke to yesterday, and I imagine that you're well within that range.

The other thing is how hard are you working out at the gym? Sometimes extreme exercising can hinder things with TTC as well.

How long have you been TTC Emilie?

I strongly believe in acupuncture. I use to have acupuncture for my migraines, thankfully acupuncture now keeps them away. I continued to have acupuncture to get my body into shape (internally), ready for when we ttc. I believe that is why my DH and I feel pregnant so quickly (after 3 months).

My old acupuncturist (who has now gone back to the states) specialised in fertility and she had great success with couples who had IVF. So I use to go to her when I was about to ovulate, to make sure I did ouvlate.

I would certainly try and go off recommendations and use an acupuncturist who specialises in fertility.

Just a word of warning though, it does take your body a little while to get use to acupuncture, so don't expect miracles after the first appointment.

The very best of luck!

I know personally of people who have tried it and concieved that way. It is worth a shot.

The other thing I am going to start giving a go is Neurolink. Grants like 4th cousin does this and she said she will treat me for free. So going to see if I can lose weight that way and concieve easier next time around and hopefully not miscarry again.

Hi Emile
There is some support in the medical literature for acupuncture - both for male and female infertility. I've been going to Jenny Alison (in Auckland) for about 3 months, so far just doing groundwork (she says it averages 3 - 6 months to conceive) and it has had some effect as my previously heavy and painful periods are MUCH better. I've seen her about 6 times at a cost of $55 per appt, and as of this cycle will be seeing her once a month just before ovulation. She recommends treating your partner too and only charges an extra $10 for the partner.
My partner and i have also been seeing a herbalist, which also helped with the periods, but not as dramatic a change as with the acupnucture, and more expensive.

Good luck!

Hi everyone, I was so glad to see this chat on acupuncture! we are currently undergoing our 2nd frozen embryo transfer, i would love to hear from anyone who has had it during an ivf cycle. Is it too late for acupuncture if you are already in a cycle??

hi Kirst

You're not too late - some research suggests that having acupuncture on the day of IVF significantly increases the success rate. You should be aware that these are just small studies, so it could just be luck - but hey, it's a pretty small cost, so I'd certainly try it!    I can send you some research articles if you're interested (I can't seem to attach them directly to this).
