I'm an amateur and have never worked with fondant before but I really wanted to make my son's birthday cake myself!

Here's how his Dr Seuss cake turned out, and a link to a step by step on how I made it. I did use chopsticks through the bottom cake with a cake board on top to handle the weight of the top cake.

Gorgeous I really want one of those 'fur/grass' nozzles!

Here's Jacob's cake - nothing fancy, rather easy (we've had a sick couple of weeks and are a bit behind in everything, so I didn't have a lot of time), but he liked it

Great cake Hopes!!

The 'fur/grass tip' is one of the best ones I've purchased so far! I use it all the time

caliandjack will you be carving it into a shape? If so, you'll need a 'heavy' cake so it'll hold the shape (I always use my choc cake recipe, I can send it to you if you like )

If not then you can use whatever cake takes your fancy

Nope I think I will make a standard shape and make some fondant animals to go on top. I like the looks of the one you did for your little girl for her 1st birthday.

I ended up putting a pic in the October Babies thread in the Photo Gallery - feel free to have a look!
It was a lot easier than I was expecting but now I have 'the bug'. Can't wait to do more!
