    Posted: 12 June 2007 at 10:12am

hi girls, I am looking at starting to cook & freeze some meals in advance for once baby is here - for myself & DH..

Would appreciate some tried & true recipes i can use that I can cook, throw in the freezer then just pull out & thaw/defrost easily for dinner. I would definitely prefer to make the meals myself rather than buy frozen meals from the supermarket.. although this may end up being an option later too

Pies freeze well. I often freeze left overs - spag bol, sns pork, deviled sausages.. stews/casseroles.

another thing to do now is if you buy meat to cut up for stews curries etc, cut it into cubes before you freeze it, then all you need to do is get it out thaw & either add whatever sauce or pop into crock-pot etc.

...casseroles, shepherd's pie...

when it comes to buying I go for family pies and pizzas, and things that are pretty simple like crmbed schnizel (patties), fish fingers and hash browns.

LOL - the topic title looked like you were wanting recipes for stewing a placenta.

Lol I totally didn't think of that, but then scrolled back up to read the title.. oh my goodness first time I've actually laughed at loud at something in this forum (well actually more of a quiet chuckle to myself, but definately audible!).

hey justme....when I get organised I will cook up a massive bolognase mix and then freeze it in smallersizes. Works for spag bol, any other pasta, lasagne, even "odd" tasting nachos/burittos etc.

Likewise a casserole can be a casserole, pie, shepherds pie etc.

and freeze some yummy desserts. And lots of bread....vegemite on toast is always good.

I made some bacon and egg pies so all they needed doing was heating. Made meatballs so all Dh needed to do was cook them some spaghetti and make meatballs and spaghetti. Mince dishes are an easy thing to cook and then freeze.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I make bacon and egg pies in my muffin tins, so that there are individual servings... works really good too when you freeze them, because then you can pull one or two out for you for lunch, or a few for dinner.

Do you have a toastie maker?
You could make up a bunch of sandwiches eg cheese and ham, etc, then freeze them, when you want a quick lunch or dinner pull a few out and pop them in the maker.

Ooh.. liking this bacon & egg muffin idea daikini!

AnnieB - this is a great idea too - I must be the only one who doesn't have a toastie sandwhich maker at the moment - I have a panini/grill press though - which isn't the same - I tried making a traditional cheese & vegemite toastie but all  the filling oozes out. I think I'll be down at the next briscoes sale for a toastie maker though

Thanks

Justme- we have a grill press at home and it works fine, well only if you don't press too hard

thanks busymum - I hadn't thought of doing quiches this way - good idea!

AnnieB - thanks - we had a press at work which was good like that & I used to make cheese toasties on it for lunch but the one we have at home pretty much loses all the filling - it just all spills out onto the grill - quite disappointing! (I have only tried cheese & vegemite toasties on it though).
