Topic: xmas stress Posted: 11 December 2006 at 10:28am |
anyone getting this yet? I have the in-laws arriving in the next week and an stressing out a fair bit. doesn't help that this is their house and I can see them judging my cleaning efforst. the propblem is that when the tenant left, she left a fair mess and they have only seen the place BEFORE she moved in, so am sure I will get "the blame" for some of the stuff. ick ick ick. and still have some presents to buy and GRRRR. Just getting stressed out by the xmas stuff. not impressed.

Yep.. I am still trying to decide what I should give to some people.. we have already spent so much money but have heaps of presents to buy.. and I just got the fees for Ellas creche so far, over $200 which has to be paid.. and we are going into overdraft each week, which we never seem to get out of doesn't help that DP uses our credit card for work (they do pay back - owns his own company) but seeing the amount it is up to whenever I check the bank balance isn't reassuring..

So yes, DH needs to get his tooth pulled out ASAP, his work is so busy at the moment that he's not taking breaks there, and then coming home to do work on the house so not resting at all. Andrew's ears are playing up again so can't wait for the appointment with the specialist next week to see what is wrong with them and if we need to look at grommets in again. We are building at our house at the moment and we want most if not all of it done before I have this next baby which includes a whole new bathroom so hoping it can be done and I don't have this baby early.

i hate to say it but i'm actually relatively stress free this year *ducks down behind desk in case stressed out ladies start throwing rotten fruit*.
my family is doing a secret santa type thing this year because there's heeeeaps of us, this way everyone only has to buy one present. it's way easier and saves so much time.
i hope everything works out over christmas and the stress levels reduce for everyone.

I'm having an alright Christmas season too. I think I'm finally getting used to the in-laws' quirky ways! I've spent most of my married life on DH's student income so we decided a while back that $10pp in the extended family was going to be it. Because that's all we could afford. And this year we've done the same but I've still managed to find some nice things and am not actually feeling embarrassed about it this year!
Oh another thing - we put aside $5/week from Christmas to the following Christmas and that gives us a tidy little sum for the next year. We can add to it if we want to, but at least we know we have enough.

I heard that the warehouse is doing a xmas club stamp thing next year - like the supermarkets do. hope thats true cause we have nearly $200 of stamps and thats one less thing to stress about. just realised that half the family are staying somewhere else while they are here so only have two extras to feed and clean,.

I haven't even started thinking about christmas yet. Have a $40 freaking parking fine before I can consider buying christmas pressies... if I do at all.

Speaking of fines, I got two speeding tickets in hald an hour last week on my way to and from preschool. And one of them I was only doing 56!
But back to the topic, I have decided not to stress this year. Mum and Dad are coming over and we're going up north to my grandparents so I don't have to worry about visitors and getting food ready and stuff. And I got most of my shopping done before the gremlins arrived which is good, just have to buy for Mum and Dad and my grandparents.
PLus I am actually looking forward to the extra pairs of hands lol...

We have a yes and a no here, lol. No-one to cook for this year, no-where to go until boxing day, pressies for girls done and ourselves done, just have my mum left to buy for. I think for us it's arranging finances so that we can tide over the in betweens and stuff like that, and realising that there's alot of stuff to do and not so much time to do it. OMG also just realised that this now means ih ave around 8 months only left until ihave to have finished my level 2 portfolio. crazy and scary.
Mainly our house is a mess cos we are hardly here but have been just enough to create messyness lately, but not long enough to clean up. so am getting my butt off here and doing a blitz. Have created a list of to do's and stuck it to the fridge... how pitiful - it only has 3 things crossed off so far. better get to it.

I am surprisingly stress free this year - and i am not sure why? Even at school, I have everything done that needs to be done and I am now sorting through things in prep for finishing up term 2 next year! Crazy - I am usually rushing around at the last minute but none of that.
have done no shopping yet, but I know exactly what I am getting people and there sin't that much to buy, so even that isn't worrying me.
it really helps that I am not having it at my house this year, but going to the inlaws where they will run around after me and have amazing food, plus they live around the corner so it isn't far to travel.
Man -feeling incredibly lucky here!

I have done hardly any shopping for christmas, but not stressed about it - YET. I am sure next week will come and I will panic that I still have sooooooooooo much to do. I wrote out a list of what I am getting people and going to stick to it so I can get it done quick and hopefully stressfree. I went shoping last sat and I couldn't get into it (I think I was just tired and unlike me could not get the 'thrill' of shopping)
I need to do the fortnightly shopping this week - well last week so a week and the cupboards are looking bare.
which I think I will go tomorrow afternoon and sort that out - 1 thing down... how many to go???
And creditcard bills don't mention that today I went and paid for our trip to the UK - $10000 plus later..... ah the joys of a family of 5.
Anyway watch this space for a stressed out AnnC

Thanks to the Tear Fund alternative gift idea, I'm not stressing one bit about prezzies this year (woo-hoo!). We are still (ho hum) doing the whole - visit one family, visit the next one thing on the day, so lugging the portacot and luggage that we need for Ella to spend the day away will make that more of a mission, but no biggie. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is having to be a hose-beast of a mummy willing to growl at anyone waking sleeping baby! Thank God we're not under any pressure to host Christmas day yet (whew!).
