Just out of curiosity cos I had to get a new script for all Hannahs meds today, what meds if any have you been prescribed for your kids allergies. And I know that some of the others have nothing at all...

We have an antihistamine (LoraPaed) for hives/itching, a steroid (RediPred) if she has a worse reaction or if she eats something shes allergic to to try and prevent a major reaction, and adrenalin (EpiPen) if its anaphylaxis.

We had either Zyrtec or Claratyne (script was for Claratyne but sometimes the pharmacy subbed it with Zyrtec) for hives/itching as Maya was prone to random outbreaks, she was on 2ml per day, plus had to have an extra dose if she came into contact with anything she was allergic to and reacted. If that didn't work we had to go straight to the doctor, she had 2 lots of adrenalin shots, one after she had a sulfa med and one after her 15 mth MMR jab when she reacted badly.

Well as you know, we got a big fat NUTHIN, which is rediculous!  Meant to get an epi-pen once Ella reaches 10kg.

Don't worry Andie, Maya was nearly 2 before they started her on the antihistamine and that was only coz she kept having random outbreaks to who knows what.

Andie it was after seeing you the other day that made me think about this

I guess with us living in such a small town, we need to have something to tide us over until an ambulance could get here. We dont usually have doctors on call at night or any on the weekends, no after hours or emergency (closest is Palmy which is 45min drive away). And the ambulance isnt always in town, it could be out in the country at an accident or something, so we'd have to wait for one from somewhere else. Freaks me out if I think about it too much...

Ah yes, phenargan . But I use it for reasons other than as an antihistamine It has been known to work wonders on sick, snuffly, ear-infected gremlins who haven't slept in days.
In my defense, the antihistamine in it does help dry out the ears and sinuses, but it's the lovely drowsy side effects that do it for me
