Had my first OB visit today.
I'm unfavourable for VBAC. In my notes from CS it says I have an 'unfavourable pelvic outlet' - I'm not inclined to challenge that so it's elective CS this time round.
I'm just a bit sad about it
This is #2 for me, I had been thinking I'd be VBAC and vague plans for #3 in another couple of years. Now it's going to be CS this time and every time I'm wondering if I can have a #3 (and what about #4, though I'm not so sure I'd want 4, just I'd like to know I had the option)

Aww was it an unexpected decision?
When I had my OB visit I asked if I would have a baby limit if my second birth was a c/s. He said that methods are getting better all the time and while some people would have been seriously limited in the past, these days many women can have 10, 12 kids all via c/s. So your future plans should be okay...all your pregnancies from hereon are likely to be only 38 weeks long and make you the envy of all VB-ers! And, an elective c/s has gotta be a whole lot less freaky than an emergency one.
*hugs*

Hey, sorry about your bad news, I can understand how you would be a bit sad about it, I know I would have been too.

I know a lady who had 4 babies all by c/s. I'm not sure if there is a number as such I think it goes by how well your body copes with surgery, whether you have complications etc as to whether they advise against having more.

You sure can. I know someone who has had 5 c-sections. And I know someone else who had 2 c-sections then a VBAC.

I know the feeling about being sad. My dreams of having a natural drug-free home birth have been shattered. The surgeon that did my last c-section said I have a very small and oddly shaped pelvis and didn't believe I would be able to give birth naturally unless the baby was very small. And as my last bub was 9lb 5oz I don't see it happening.

But hey, I am trying to tell myself that there are worse things in life to miss out on than pushing a large baby out of my vagina!

I've had 5 c-sect, & OB didn't see any problem with me having another (I do however, lol). My first two were emergencies, first was "normal" emergency, second was a "crash", we almost lost her. My pelvis is crap too, the front curves in like a guys instead of out like a girls, that's apparently the most common type of wonky pelvis, lol. I wish I could do it natural & it makes me sad, but electives are ok & alive babies are better. Your babies don't care how they get out!

I'm about to have #3 by c-sect (after a crash, and then elective c-section, elective being less than 2 years ago) and the ob said theres not really any limit with modern technology and careful monitoring etc, BUT the risks do rise marginally from #4 c-section onwards. I'm done with #3 for more reasons than just multiple c-sections, so am opting for a tubal ligation this time.

As someone wise once told me, when you drop your kids off at school and look at the other kids, you cant tell whether they were born vaginally or by c-section, any more than you can tell if they were formula or breast fed so long as they come out healthy, thats the best outcome

Mil had 3 c-sects, first being in 1990, second 95 and third 98. She was told she could have more (but would have to be c-set) but she chose not to. Each case is probably different so best to see someone about it but like the others said...

I've had 2 c sections both elective at 39 weeks. i also have an unfavourable pelvis due to surgery on it and bone removed to build up my hip bone when i was a kid. So pelvis is in no shape to push out a baby!

I am hugely thankful that c sections are here and if they weren't i may not have been able to have kids as they wouldn't be able to get out!

Both were really postive and fanastic i wouldn't change anything and both boys were well and o.k that's really the main thing. It doesn't matter in the slighest how they come out, as long as they do!

Also my obs who did the c section said when she visited the next morning after DS2 birth "so see you back for your 3rd c section soon"

Thanks for your messages of support.
I suddenly got really upset about it at 3am this morning - poor DH didn't know what was happening when I woke him to share my problems.
I'm feeling a bit better about it now though.
Just can't wait to hold my baby boy

It's ok to be upset, I cried the whole way into hospital this last time (40min drive, poor DH), there's no rule "tough it out & pretend that everything's ok". I was terrified, kept repeating to myself "it'll be over soon", & it was, =). If you're worried about what others think e.g. randoms in the supermarket "how was the birth?", I just say "fairly straightforward". I wish I was as ballsy as a friend of mine who replied "none of your business, it's my vagina".

I have to ask if they explained what was so unfavourable?
I also had to add that in my notes for my second c-section (after a TOL) I had this noted as a reason for my failed vbac... No-one could explain what that meant LOL!
I had baby #3 & #4 naturally & both had bigger heads than my first two children

Just a thought on my part anyway

Love it!

I had such a positive elective CS this time (emergency last time) Apart from the failing IV insertion and the latex after.. the actual walking in, sitting down, having the spinal and being so upbeat about it was brilliant. I remember saying to my husband: 'oh, I feel empty now.' after they pulled Lily out.. although I couldnt feel the op itself, I could tell that big ol baby wasnt in there anymore! was so funny hehe.

One of our local Plunket nurses had 5 caesareans and when we were chatting about it, she informed me the current world record is TWELVE ... insane huh!! (I think I remember that correctly)

Hehe the 'none of your business it's my vagina' is a good call!! I sometimes wonder why people ask, I mean, clearly it was good in the end if there's a baby in your arms

Mum to two very active boys, born October 2008 and December 2010. Getting excited about becoming a Childbirth Educator, and LOVIN being a birth support to amazing and courageous women!
