Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice here? 11 years ago I had a bad car accident with various injuries all over my body. When I woke up from my coma I had a really sore hip at the back, I was in a wheelchair at the hospital and then hobbled (sp) for quiet some time. Because there was apparently no breaks in my hip or back the physio's etc at the hospital decided to just leave it with minimal manipulation/help and said it would just come right. So 11 years later it has not come right I mean its not as sore as the first month I did it but it now gives me grieve in my pelvis, I even had a scan on my pelvis 2 or so years ago thinking I had something wrong with my womens bits and it turn out to my coming from that injury. Im now terrified that giving birth could make this injury worse and wondering if I should be getting a c-section. I would totally love to give birth. I still need to have appointments with the anethetist team and obstetrician (well convience him if thats possible) thoughts???

I would think that the delivery bit wouldnt make much difference to it? Surely having a term baby sitting in your pelvis would be worse? I know a lot of women get SPD in their 3rd trimester which is painful, so you might be more at risk of getting that? Iw ould have a chat to your MW and see what she says?
Maybe with all the preggy hormones and muscle and joint relaxants, pushing a baby out might realign you from the inside out? But I really have no idea, just trying to apply what I know about pregnancy/birth to what youve said.. your mw should be able to point you in the direction of some info, or maybe your physio/chiro that know your situation might have some tips?

I had good sucess having a c/s after back / pelvis/ tailbone injuries from my VB for first baby.

The worst bit about the c/s is when the morphine wears off after around 24hr and your back/pelvis is sore from sitting / lying on it for a day, even with short walks etc as they promote movement. I found because I couldnt lye on my side to sleep the first / second nights after c/s I had to lye on my back which was actually what made it sore/ache but good drugs help.

MY GP & OB & MW all suggested i have a c/s as they would have hated to see me back to square one with my back pain, at least with a c/s you stay at the same level if you know what I mean. I have since done pilates/physio/chiro since the c/s 3 years ago and am now 18wks preg and planning another c/s.

Like Girls Rock, I had a CS after three breaks to my tailbone. I ended up sitting on rolled towels and wearing a pelvic support belt in the third tri because of the pressure on my pelvis, and particularly the tailbone, .. ouch! Anyway, for me, the CS was the best thing. I was petrified about rebreaking an already vulnerable tailbone and having a newborn to look after. Comparatively, the CS was a walk in the park to recover from. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the info ladies. I feel at this stage if the obstetrician is going to agree with me that im gonna do the c-section. I guess I think for me its not really worth the risk of the injury becoming worse and ive never had a proper diagnoses of what is actually wrong with it.

Tough one eh? I'd say go with your gut feeling - If you're sh*t scared about causing more injury to yourself then you're only going to stress yourself out more while you're in labour etc. Of course a specialist is going to be your first point of contact about it - they'll know what to do! I pushed for a c-section for my first because of the risks of my hip dislocating during birth (they weren't going to do it but I ended up having an emergency anyway). Second was an elective because they let you have the choice (lol). I had no morphine second time round as they said they dont use it anymore except in extreme cases - If you do have a section, get them to let you be moved around so you dont get the pain from laying around heaps. I was up and moving 6 hours after the elective. Yes it was sore, but I didnt want to cause myself more backpain because of being in one spot! (only moved from the bed to a chair and back a few times)
Hope that helps! Good luck.
