Hrmmmm yesssss.

There is evidence that has suggested that circumcision can reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

If you are talking about this in relation to NZ, which has a low HIV transmission rate, then I don't think it is particularly relevant as I would put far more emphasis on empowering women, educating the public, condom negotiation, and delaying sex than circumcision.

As far as I know, there is no evidence to say that it prevents the transmission of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HPV which are of much more concern to NZers.

Yeah I don't see it as very relevant to NZ either. I think its more relevant to educate people and encourage safe sex practices over here.

For the countries that the report mentioned then yes it would. but I agree here in NZ not all that relavant. When people can access free (or very cheap) condoms, they should be educating that.

Don't worry Rach, my post wasn't specifically directed at you... just to clarify what exactly the WHO recommendations and findings were relevant for just in case anyone read it as something that might be applicable to NZ. I know there has been talk about it within NZ before... which I came across when I was working for FP.
