Losec is way better! Get the capsules which you put straight on their breakfast, once a day. Ranitidine is flavoured which can still upset some babies.

Its like i have just read the history to my experiences!!
My girl is 8 months and 4 days. I was at breaking point this morning, left the house went for walk, didnt know where i was going, so went to the local bus stop and sat there, ha ha ha, i can laugh now, but i needed time out and air! She was crying incessantly and the night was even worse!!!
Off to the doctors tomorrow as the Losec sounds good?? She has started solids before being BF so i hope i havent hit a rough patch??

You need Losec. Cooper got put on Losec at 11 months! They don't all grow out of it. He should have improved not stayed the same. Have you been to see an allergy specialist at the hospital?
This is what my boy eats.
Pears, up to half a day. Either fresh & peeled thickly or canned in syrup & the syrup rinsed off.
Banana maybe about half one of the long ones, only a couple of times a week.
Farex, 8-10 month ones.
Porridge, millet cereal, homemade pancakes. Woolworth bakery white bread.
Pasta or white rice. Chicken & red meat, only veges in tea are spring onions, garlic, leek when available, swede when available, potato in small quantities.
Sakata plain crackers or Salada original crackers.
We are very extreme on our diet here because he is dairy free as well. He can not tolerate any other fruits or vegetables. I have a huge range of recipes so it's not as if our diet is boring at least! But he's just started sleeping through the night & he's not spilling & he's happy.
Is he formula fed or breast fed? If he's formula fed maybe one of the elemental ones would help him?
Also, do you have a teething necklace for him? Might help with its anti inflam properties? |
Yep to all of that, tried all of it... and he is FF as I couldnt BF (literally).... but we are prob even stricter on what we give him given the extreme allergies in our family. (my bro cant eat any raw veges or fruit!). L gets funky w porrige (oats), pasta, not going near banana as I am highly allergic to that. But we have found the corn and quinoa cruskits a godsend... what did we do without them! Just tried him on Avo again and he seems ok with that now too... phew.
Long story short- we have dropped another bottle in the morning, and launch straight into brekky (pear millet porrige)- and the last 2 days have been heeeeeaps better. so now he is only on 3 bottles a day. funny thing is- we are giving him less med because of it... how ironic and interesting.
Half a pear wouldnt touch the sides for L. He was born ravenous!!! lol
We tried Pepti etc, and that made it all worse. I think we tried every formula available!!
I think he isnt a milk boy at all. I wish that was the answer to all our probs though! reflux still reigns.
Rocmummy- how did you get on????

The doctor gave me liquid losec. Because i breastfeed her, she has never wanted a bottle, so at the moment it is difficult to give to her. I wonder if i can mix it in with her farex??
Soooo frustrating!! Interrupted night sleeps, and short day sleeps, i toughing it out at the moment to be attentive to her and keep sane! Im sure you understand! My next step is to force the doctor to give a referral to a peadiatrician.

Watch out - my boy's on liquid omeprazole which is a form of Losec and it tastes TERRIBLE so if the liquid losec is the same you wouldn't want to mix it with milk or food of any kind. We measure out in a syringe and give to Ryan when he's lying flat on his back. If he's sitting up he'll just spit it out. So when I change his nappy, in goes the meds as quick as I can.

I get the capsules & empty them onto farex on his breaky. Easy peasy.
Kitkat, he only has half a pear a day as for intolerant adults 2 pears is max dosage. All to do with the Salicylate acid in the fruits & veges.

The liquid losec is just the capsules dissolve in sodium bicarbonate the the sb in it can make them vomit it back up too. Even an very young baby can have the capsules just broken open and given with a bit of stewed apple or pear. You don't have to worry about the apple or pear being a solid because it acts like the syrup that most medications are put in to disguise the taste,eg pamol is just paracetmol in a very sweet syrup. Plus, the acid in the apple/pear helps the losec to work. Also be aware that the goverment subsidise omprezole is not the same as losec and often doesn't work. So if you are having trouble with losec and it is coming in blue and black capsules it is Dr Reddy's omprezole, you need to specifically ask for the losec brand, it has pink capsules.

Hi,
i have 12 weeks old baby and it was it took me long to discover is was suffering from silent reflux. Upon doctors visit she was prescribed Ranitidine ,,which was not very effective so they prescribed a stronger one...omeprazole. This was little better than the other one however my bas reflux was gone by colic calm grip water. It is just one of the amazing product i have ever tried.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Colic calm worked wonder for my baby.
It is a natural remedy, produced in USA....though little expensive but worth it.
All the best

Saffron, we have yellow & purple Dr's Reddy's. Working a treat at the moment. Are the blue & black ones for a 20 mg dose?
How did you find the Colic Calm Karan?

Rocmummy: Yup. To leaving the house. After only two months of not sleeping for more than two hours in a row, I (stupidly) got in the car one night, drove around the block, then around again, and again, talking myself sane. It didn't help everyone said it would get better (god, if anyone told me that it would get better once my baby was WALKING ... I just couldn't cope with the thought I had a whole year of this to go through!~!!!)
We had to wait until bub was nearly three months old before we could see a specialist and then we finally got on to ranitidine, after persisting with gaviscon six times a day (he was exclusively breastfed, of course wouldn't take a bottle!!). All I can say was that I didn't care if bub didn't like the spearmint taste: I got that syringe, 0.8mls in total, and squirted it right at the back of his mouth, bypassing his tastebuds anyway!! (might sound mean, but I knew it was for the best). Just like mollycat said, just get it in there quick as you can.
Ok, he had silent reflux, so vomiting it back up wasn't an issue for us. But within three-four days of tmt, twice a day, he was a textbook sleeper.
He's 19 months now and still on ranitidine, but now he loves the taste says "yum yum" after he has it!!! LOL
Perservere, get to the specialist, and get on the right dose for your baby. I interrogated ours about the long term effects of taking ranitidine and as far as they could say there weren't any. (Besides, what has to be far worse are the long term effects of sleep deprivation for you and your family?)

Hi AandCsmum, sorry I haven't been on for ages but I think the the black and blue capsules are the 20mg, unless they changed the capule colours. Issy's always been on a very strong dose.

Hi im new in here but not new to reflux, and my darling last is the worst, so i do know what everyone is going though but on top of it all shes failure to thrieve as well,we have been down all the food roads all the meds which take the edge of. We are hoping she will out grow it shes 11 months today weighing 6.5kg at last weigh in , weve had great help with her i.e docs etc took a bit of pushing but was worth it. So hugs to to all going through this and its so hard to watch your baby in pain and not know what to do to help and it makes me so mad when docs dont listen, we as mums knows somethings not right.

Oh so good to see a thread with other mums going through similar stuff. We are just starting to get on reflux issues now. Had a baby that always cried, refused to feed and stopped putting on any weight. Would throw up acid all the time. Was not pretty. Fortunately for me Dr listened and Leah threw up acid all over the place three times while in Dr office so he couldn't ignore our issues. Ranitidine did not work and is now on reflux, which worked for a while, but going to have to up the dose cause it's getting bad again.
I remember being a total wreck when it was at it's worst. I wouldn't leave the house cause I couldn't handle her crying while we were out or while I was driving. She would scream at the top of her lungs.
I'm guttered she refuses to bf now. She still associates it with the pain she went through and will only take bottle. So now I can only really bf twice a day when she is at her most relaxed and it will only be a slight snack feed.
