What age did you stop giving Neocate?

My daughter is on neocate and is 15 months old. My special authority number is going to run out this month and I am wondering if I need to get another authority number or if she can stop having it soon and just drink rice milk?

That's great, hopefully she is growing out of it. My boy grew out of his egg allergy by 20 months and he can now have cheese and yoghurt but has to have rice milk on his cereal cos that still doesn't agree with, but hopefully won't be too much longer. Just peanuts for us to still worry about now.

We started having multiple wake ups at night and so have stopped giving dairy and finally last night we had a good sleep.

Our Dr wants us to try and stop her reflux medication. Is it better to be on reflux medication and be able to have bits of dairy or to stop the reflux medication and give no dairy? My Dr doesn't know, I have asked the pead that we went to see (left a message) but not sure if I will hear back.

yeah I'd rather avoid dairy and be off the meds...Ethan was on it till one but my friend whose child still cant have dairy is on it till she can and she is 2.5 now.. so i would stay on it if i was you.

yeah I agree with others, I would rather no dairy and no meds than meds and dairy. Dairy is not an essential food, there is nothing in it that you can't get from other sources.

drumstx if you have the special authority number you should be getting it way cheaper than $80 a tin. I think when we swapped from neocate to neocate advance there was no change in price but not quite sure as we bought in 3 month lots and was always different amounts of tins cos he was slowly drinking less formula as he ate more solids. We were only paying $3.75 per tin for the advanced with the special authority number, through the canterbury DHB, I know other areas charge more but not $80 cos that is the price without the number. We use to buy ours through biolab so maybe ring them in your area and see if they have it? or ring your paed and ask them who to buy it from cos it really should not be costing you $80, no point having the authority number if you are paying that.

drumstx - did you mean $80 a repeat? (as in for a dozen or so tins at a time?) That's what our bill is like too, at about $7 a tin, and we get 12 tins every 2months (ish). we're on neocate advanced too.

Nat's still reacting if we give her unprocessed/unheated dairy, or give it to her more than a once-off (she's ok with eg baked cheese on toast but only at most once a fortnight).

I left a message with the pead and he has recommended that we stop the reflux medication and avoid dairy then try giving her half a yoghurt each month to see how it goes.

So far Eva seems to be doing fine without her reflux medication. I am finding it hard to not let her have things with dairy in them when she sees other people eating them.

We pay $80 for 12 tins of neocate.

How many feeds of neocate are people giving each day? I am still giving Eva 3 bottles a day, she is really fussy with it and it has to be HOT and she refuses to drink out of a sippy cup and only has about 80mls each feed.

12 tins every two weeks would be expensive drumstx.

I have tried giving neocate cold, warm, in food... every way I can and the only way she will drink it is hot, the lady on the neocate helpline told me that luke warm is suppose to be the most palatable, Eva must just have weird taste.

I have tried making custard with rice milk and even soy milk and she really doesn't like that either, I wonder if it is because she isn't use to have foods like that.
