Topic: I have two OMG did you read thats!! Posted: 06 May 2007 at 9:11am |
Did anyone see that Australian women who was fondled while breastfeeding her baby in a baby room!! How gross. She was even in a cubicle with the curtain closed. There are some sick sick people out there.
And I just saw the headline today about a 2 year old who was shot and killed in a gang drive by!
I always thought NZ was such a nice peaceful place but this just sounds like something you would hear about in america! Scary stuff.

I've just finished reading that article about the 2yr old; so sad. The other one that got me was the driver who mowed down up to 20 people in Christchurch because someone through a bottle at his car. Sick.

I've heard the two that Mel mentioned but hadn't heard about that Australian woman. How crazy is that!

Not good at all. my2angels and myself live near each other. We have had within the last couple of months a domestic killing in an upper class area (Regents Park) and then a young boy stabbed around the road as well, what is this world coming too???? It is rather scary.

It is soo terrible what goes on here in NZ . Last Friday while me and a friend were having coffee at a cafe in Petone the bank across the road was being held up at gun point . All we saw was armed defenders and police blocking off the street and making all the shops etc close by close the doors and getting people off the street. They caught the guy too, thankgoodness

The recent news has been pretty horrific, but I guess its important to remember that we are still a lot safer here than in some countries.
We are all a lot more shocked by 'bad news' here as its still not an everyday thing (although it is starting to be...). In London, LA, Jo-burg etc murders dont even make the news - they are just so common.
Its the main reason we came back from London, even though we loved it and always felt safe (apart from the bombings) we didnt think it was a nice place to bring up a baby!
That said - we shouldnt become blaze to the fact that this is happening in our country....
ETA: just my ten cents worth this morning!!

I didn't see the breastfeeding thing, but the little girl shot was on the front page of the Sunday Herald so I couldn't miss it. It makes me feel sick

Re: the people being run over, I have a friend who just found out a good friend of hers is in a drug-induced coma with several broken bones, internal bleeding and a brain hemorrage (sp?) What a waste.
And the 2 year old - those people are just scum. Gangs are just men's excuse to never grow up IMHO. It's pathetic. Anyway, my rant over!

My heart just really goes out to the family of the little 2-year-old. And I don't think Michael Law's idea to ban gang patches will make a shred of difference... people don't join gangs for the patch. People I've heard from in gangs have said they join because it's another form of family (and we all need a family). I think gangs will always be here, and the best we can do is come alongside the heads of gangs and work on educating people on making better choices.
Oh that sounded like such PC crap!!!
But the funny thing is I really mean it!

Well yea, the other thing is that they'll get by by calling them "clubs" or similar.
I think it was Helen Clark I heard on the radio the other day saying if patches were outlawed, they'd just get facial tattoos or something. Again, it's gang-behaviour, not the actual gang-membership that's the problem.

I agree, i got angry about the wee girl in portugal but i was more angry she was left to sleep alone in a building. I realise that some places are safe but i guess it comes down to the individual. I dont think i would be so trusting as to leave me child asleep in a foreign country and go for a meal down the road.
I take monitors with me when the children are asleep and we go outside for a meal. But i guess i am more paranoid. The sad thing is nz is becoming like every other country, with violence increasing in all the major towns and cities.
Last year a young mother on my street was stabbed to death by her ex partner (in front of her toddlers). the sad thing is the children were left alone with her body over night before the neighbours came to investigate why the children were crying.

you know what i found heartbreaking? not that i didnt find the two sixteen year olds getting run over awful (especially as my friends boyfriend was killed the same way in october last year) or Jhia getting shot, or little madeleine going missing devastating, the other one i found disgusting and just bl**dy awful was the 3 year old from otara who was beaten to death by his mum and step dad...they showed photos of his body-not one bit was not bruised, not one bit of skin, i did a make up artistry course and we had an autopsy book (an american one of course) and some of the photos, peoples heads cut off etc were sickening -but the photos of the little boy were the worse ive seen. Ever.I felt sick
The worse part is, his mum had given him up at one month to her cousin and her cousins husband, the little boy was well looked after and they LOVED that little boy -he was to all extents and purposes , THEIR son, then the police start checking up on how many kids the birth mum is claiming support for so surprise surprise she wants him back, the courts saw no problem with that so off he went-from a house with his own winnie the pooh room to a mattress on the floor, from a house where they spoke tongan to a house where they spoke english, and naturally with all these upheavals he started soiling his pants and wetting himself-so he got beaten, he would actually throw his faeces out the window ...NO child at 3 should be that scared of having an accident.
3 months this went on, till they killed him, his mum , as in his adopted mum, who had not been allowed to see him that whole time , was by his side when he passed away in hospital....his dad tends to his grave every day ,and one of the saddest parts is that his adopted mum blames herself, because she didnt do what she wanted and take him away.
God, that story just breaks my heart, its made me cry typing it out-how can people DO that to children???why doesnt everyone see how precious they are????
btw-the birth mum and step dad got manslaughter

>>ooo now you've got me mad!!
your not mad at me are you??
...or at the story ?
isnt awful? yeah aimee, i tend not to watch the news cos of this stuff too, but i saw it in the paper, and then on last saturday (i think) they had the whole awful story (now that the court case is over)
I must have looked mad cos caitlyn came up to me very scared and said " are you okay mummy?" and i said " yes sweetheart, im heartbroken for this boy but im so so glad your my daughter " ( and that as long as im around you'll never have the same childhood he had)
