I’m kind of stressed out with starting solids. I just need to know I’m doing fine. My Lo is 6 months and I started with banana. So far, I am using http://goodmomming.com/ to get recommendations but idk. Which was your first solid to introduce?

Hi Brooke, I started my lil one was nearly 6m out on the Baby Rice and tried making it up with both boiled cooled water and breast milk and he just didn't like it at all, I also found it really hard to get the consistency right, it would be all smooth and then it would just turn to liquid really quickly and after speaking with some of the other mums in my coffee group some babies just don't like it, so rather than stress myself out over it I moved onto pureed veges and fruit, he found the canned/pouches of fruit really sour and would screw his face up and spit it out LOL I was most prop trying him on those too soon :D I found one of the mesh food bags (ours is Tommee Tippee) great for giving him fresh fruit to eat I put it in the freezer while he is eating his food so its a lil chilled for his gums as hes teething at the moment so far he has had banana, pear, peach and apple. Veges I started on the canned pumpkin and kumara, vege medley, carrot and rice etc, Also if you want to make your own food rather than buy the pre made food Annabel Karmel baby food books are a really good read for starting solids and ideas for recipes for the lil ones, I borrowed one from the local library here in Wellington. Plunket also do talks on starting on solids which are handy and they gave out a DVD and food chart with some examples on introducing which foods for each Stages, I think a lot is just trying it out, sometimes my lil one loves his food and gobbles it up and then sometimes he will just flat out refuse or not be fussed with it. But they say try the new food again in a few days/week it can take them a few times to like a new food. Good luck :D

can also recommend the annabel karmel baby books. and supermarket bought jars, tins and pouches are really good too. don't feel guilty if you don't make all or even any of your baby's food.
With my daughter I tried so hard to do the right thing when it came to starting solids. I tried mixing breastmilk with baby rice but she hated it. I tried a couple of different brands of baby rice but had no luck. In the end, following a recommendation from a relative, I tried feeding her canned pumpkin and sweetcorn puree and she loved it. we never used the baby rice. good luck
