Topic: 3D &4D scans, anywhere in NZ have them??? Posted: 12 May 2005 at 5:55pm |
Hi.
I have been looking at the 3D and 4D scans on the internet and was wondering if there was anywhere in NZ that does them. I'm hoping to find somewhere in the south island as I cant travel on the ferry.

There are places that do them here in NZ but I'm not sure how much they cost and where you can have them in the South Island. I would check with your local maternity hospital or midwife, they should have some info.

I know Ascot hospital in Greenlane (Auckland) do them. They recommend that you get them done at 26-30 weeks. It costs $160 and you get a picture and a dvd.
I think it is extremely expensive...and not really worth it unless you have extra cash lying around.
I think no matter where they do them in NZ, the price will be the same. And if you don't have referral from your LMC it is even more expensive.

I had a 3d scan at Ascot hospital, Greenlane, auckland at 20 weeks. At that time they had an introductory special for $60!!!. The down side is - if it is for an antomy scan they have to scan the 'normal'way first (2D). For me, by the time they changed to the 3D stuff (end of 2D scan) the baby turn away from the "'camera'" and all we got was from her waist up and the back of her head!! We were able to get up and change position to hopefully turn her, but she wasnt having it!! The lady doing the scan said that unfortunately the 3D pics you see are generally the best views you ever get (about 5% of scans done), and more often than not you dont get that beautiful shot you were hoping for.

Happy birthday Marshall!
I heard and ad on the radio here in Auckland that Auckland XRay is doing free 3/4D scans, not sure what the catch is!
