Topic: How did you feel the days before labour.. Posted: 06 April 2009 at 9:42pm |
Hi, I'm due this week, and I'm not really feeling any different apart from each week my stomach has been getting a bit bigger.
I'm wondering if I'll be able to tell when labour is imminent or if it will just surprise me out of the blue? Also wondering if there are any signs before knowing you will labour in a few days?
I've read there are signs like 'the show', waters breaking, diarhera, back pain etc, but they're all pretty obvious and if you have those signs then hopefully labour is only days away, or even hours.
But before those more obvious signs, do you feel normal up until that time then bang, you'll notice a show or waters breaking or a first contraction? Or is it more normal to feel crampy and twinges and niggles for days before any of the obvious signs?
Because I feel so normal I'm sure I'll go overdue by a good week, though the sooner it happens the better of course!
Thanks

I kept having loads of stupid false labour for weeks before I finally got a real labour. The thing I did notice this time though was that on the day I went into labour my boobs started dripping with colostrum, was leaking anyway but it really ramped up that morning. 3pm I started having contractions but I thought it was just another stupid false labour until my hind waters broke and then I thought it might be real. I was 4 days overdue.
I think either is normal, someone have loads of niggles before anything happens and some it just happens out of the blue......not much help eh. Either way not too much longer for you now.

I felt absolutely normal right up until the day I went into labour and had my baby girl (8 days overdue). I didn't notice any signs of labour before my show that morning. My waters didn't break, and had to be broken at 9cm dilated
The day before the birth, I was out shopping and took my sisters to the movies, and chased my 3yo sis around the park lol.
I think it is different for everyone.
All the best for your birth Coldfish! Not long now until your precious baby will be born

The day my labour started I went to lunch & did notice that my belly had dropped significantly when I caught sight of myself in a window, then mucked around at home, went out to the beach & then came home had a bath then & watched tv, played on the pc, wasnt til quite late that I had some BH's & then just before midnight my waters broke & it was all on! So mine was out of the blue, I swore I had 3 weeks to go, instead delivered a week early. On the other hand my first labour had BH'd leading up for days & then a day of stronger contractions until they upped the ante in the evening. So two completely different lead ins.
First was a posterior birth & second normal presenting birth.

The day before labour started for me I was SO grouchy! DH even noticed because I am not be nature a grumpy person. That could also be put down to the fact that it was hot and I was huge though
Sorry no real help, but then I wasn't expecting my waters to break on a routine 'wee' stop at 5.30am 10 days before my due date either

Thanks for all your replies.
It doesn't sound like there's any rhyme or reason to what each person experiences then, so I may as well just be patient and make the most of each day until The day comes.

nothing happened for me. I woke up in the morning 36 weeks pregnant. Went to the toilet (like you do all the time when pregnant) got back into bed and thought id peed my pants but knew i couldnt have cuz id just been to toilet. Stood up and gush!!! lol. Thats how i knew i was in labour. Didn't feel any contractions or anything. Rung my midwife a few hours later to let her know what had happened. And she told me to get my butt into hospital as this was too early and i needed to be monitored - i felt strangely calm about the whole situation as i felt he was ready to come. started feeling contractions at 3pm - just mild. then in established labour around midnight i think then henry was born at 3:50am. Tada. I had no inkling anything was gonna happen. I was meant to be posting my wedding invitations that day and would have done if my waters hadnt broken.

I had the show a day or three prior with a couple of my babies. Other than fed up and nauseous, that was about it. Only about 10% of people have their waters break before onset of labour.
