Topic: Maya can have Egg! Posted: 10 September 2005 at 11:37am |
Ok, so that doesn't sound like such a big deal, but it means that she is finally starting to outgrow her allergies. Her last lot of tests were negative for everything except sulphur and peanuts, so her specialist said we could try her on egg. We tried it in baking first and she didn't react, so then I let her have a little of my poached egg for breakfast and she didn't react either.
I am so excited, this is such a huge step for her! And means that I can now give her an egg for lunch every now and then!
In a month or so she will be going to Starship for the day to be trialled on dairy. Because she has had so many nasty dairy reactions they want to introduce it to her in hospital in case she reacts again. But fingers crossed that in a few weeks time she will be able to have milk too!

Yay Emma, sounds like its all starting to sort itself out. Good luck with the dairy! Must be a bit hard trying to feed Maya sometimes! My hubby is allergic to dairy and sometimes its really hard cooking things without milk or cheese.

She loved it the first time she had it (poached) but I have since given her a boiled egg and she would only eat the white. I think it's the texture coz boiled egg yolk has a strange texture.
I am more worried about her not liking milk when/if she can have it because after 2 years of modified formula and rice milk, cows milk will be a completely new taste. Still, it will be nice to be able to give her cows milk at $1.80 a litre instead of Rice milk at $3!
