Ive been thinking a lot about my meds lately. I am on loxamine for depression and anxiety. It works pretty well for me. But it gives me these insane dreams and it also makes it very difficult for me to fall asleep and stay asleep. I also have moments where I get very depressed/anxious and I use coping strategies that I have learnt in counselling to get through those moments. Sometimes I feel like the medication isn't doing anything as I still get very anxious or depressed at times anyway and then I wonder what the medication is even doing if I still feel like that. So I wonder if I should even be on it, if it isn't even helping that much. Or maybe I would see how much it is actually helping, if I went off it? It's hard to know what is medication and what is change/time if that makes sense. I feel more even and steady than I ever did not on medication but I've also done a lot of soul searching and working on how I react to things, so that could be why as well.

I have no problem being on medication, I am happy to be on it as long as needed, but I don't want to be taking something that isn't helping that much, and the dreams do really disturb me and it's stressful not being able to fall asleep when I'm tired. Perhaps I should try a different kind of medication? Has anyone switched and found something better? Im scared to mess with it too much.

I also struggle with knowing what is the natural stress/anxiety/frustration of motherhood and what is depression. I get really frustrated or mad with my DS at times because he is a really hard work child, and I tend to blame it on PND but then I wonder, is that just being a Mum?

Hope this makes some kind of sense

Hi there,

I would say that if you are still getting anxious, depressed and having trouble falling asleep then your meds aren't doing enough for you. Are you able to talk to your GP or Councellor about trying another type of medication?

Did you notice a big improvement in your anxiety and depression when you first started your meds? They say it takes a few weeks to kick in but if the meds were working for you there should have been a considerable difference.

I was on Citalopram for about 8 months in total and found this great, although I think the councelling that I done was just as effective too. A few of my friends have been prescribed this too so I think it is quite a common one.

I think I've read that 'talking' therapies are just as effective as anti-d's. So it's great that you are using the skills you learnt with your councellor.

I think it is completely normal to get frustrated and mad with your DS, kids are hard work at times for sure.

Sounds like you've made some great progress anyway so best of luck with getting this sorted. Take care
