Hi Mumma2be, your BMI will come up at some point, as depending on what treatment you are needing you can't get public funding until your BMI is under 32, so it really depends what treatment you are needing.
For me I was still just over when I went for my first appointment with FAH (Fertility associates Hamilton) he did talk about my weight and how he recommends me losing some, but put me on clomid (which isn't funded) at that time, not sure if this helps

Oh darn, just worked out I need to lose 13kg to get to 32!!
Is it just IVF and the like that need < 32 to be applicable for public funding?

Public funding isn't available for clomid cycles as far as I am aware - but can be used for IUI/IVF etc, so really depends on what treatment you need - but all public funding has the BMI from my understanding, here is the link to the FA Page with information

What is a clomid cycle? I have been told I have to lose 10 kg's before they will even let me start self funded IUI. Definately have to be BMI of 32 to get public funding, and I am 15 kgs off that. I have managed to lose 5 kg's and have 5 to go. Very frustrating and disheartening knowing that the only thing stopping us from starting IUI is weight lose on my half. Feel like I am being held to ransom by Fertility Associates

I did 3 cycles of clomid and 1 IUI with FA in 2009 and 2010, all self funded and I have a BMI over 40, so I don't know why they would be stopping you?

I live in Tauranga, so it's the Hamilton one that we have to use, Dr Ravikanti. Thanks for responding, it's really hard feeling so dejected and don't really have anyone I can really talk to who understands

I would question ask to see another Doctor, if it's your money then you shouldn't be questioned. Big hugs and hope you get your dream soon

Thanks Frankie, we have been trying for 18 months now and really want to get into some treatment to get things going. Thanks for the advice I will continue to question and push them I think. Congratulations on your gorgeous wee girl and the one on the way

Totally understand the frustration. Thanks ![](smileys/smiley1.gif) IUI worked for us first time with DD and the one on the way happened naturally for which I feel so lucky.

I am also with FAH (Fertility associates Hamilton) but with a different Dr. He has never questioned my weight (although I am over the BMI) for privately funded treatments - however has told me that for public will need to get the BMI done.

Hi Monkeys That's interesting, she (Dr) told me I need to be 32 BMI or under for public funding, which I was aware of because I read as much as I can and had checked out their website thoroughly. My BMI is 38 and I would need to lose about 18 kg's to get to the 32 BMI, but she has told me she won't start any treatment plan until I have lost some more weight
