On my first month of clomid, today is CD9 and i had a scan...the nurse couldnt locate my ovaries and the scan was very uncomfortable. She has booked me in for first thing Monday with the dr (fertility spec). Has anyone else had this problem? On my initial consultation im sure this wasnt a problem

Hi! No, I've never had this problem but one thing did occur to me: did they ask you to empty your bladder before the scan? For transvaginal scans I've always had to have an empty bladder, and for abdo scans a full bladder. Maybe a factor? Good luck for Monday!

Funny thing is I had empty bladder and no food before my last scan at initial appt, this time a bowl of porridge and water so maybe that made the diff? Will make sure I go on mon empty :-) so frustrating as I wanted to know if I was ok to start trying..... Don't want to miss my window.

Hey Mumma2be - you can have food and drink before any scans, they just ask you to go to the toilet immediately before your scan. I find the scans quite uncomfortable too, especially when on Clomid with swollen ovaries Good luck and I'm sure it will all be fine

Occasionally it can be difficult to see ovaries on vaginal scanning. They may be inactive and hidden behind bowel. They may be just tucked away and the person scanning needs to take a while to search for them. They may be hidden behind the uterus or even in the abdomen. The Oestrogen level from the blood test will give an indication to whether there is follicles developing or not on the ovary. A doctor may have more experience in scanning so if a nurse is having difficulty they will then do the scan.
